Hate crime police raid 150 homes

Police investigating allegations of racism, homophobia and domestic violence have raided about 150 addresses across London.

At least 60 people have been arrested after officers from the Metropolitan Police's community safety unit took part in the dawn raids on Wednesday.

One man has been charged with rape and others have been arrested on suspicion of making racist threats and of homophobic harassment.

The raids signal the start of a day of police action against "hate crime" - offences against people on the grounds of their race, faith, religion, disability, or sexuality.

People should not have to go through life being subjected to abuse because of who they are or what they believe in

Commander Cressida Dick Posters in newspapers and on the Tube and trains urging victims of hate crime to come forward are running as part of a two-week campaign by the Metropolitan Police.

Commander Cressida Dick, director of the Diversity Directorate, denied the operation was simply a publicity stunt.

She said: "We want the offenders who hate, hurt and harm others to know the Met will do everything in its power to find them out and put a stop to their crime.

"People should not have to go through life being subjected to abuse because of who they are or what they believe in."

The raids will be followed up by a day of activities to raise awareness of the Met's community safety units, which deal with hate crime.

Officers will take a mobile hate-crime reporting centre into the heart of London's gay community in Old Compton Street, Soho.

Would someone explain to me how this differs conceptually from the power of the Gestapo in Nazi Germany?

How long will the British people tolerate this sort of tyranny? I had heard that the Lord Mayor of London was a sexual deviant. Are the reports correct? And is that what is really behind this?

Since I "hate" leftist bullies who want to reorient human thinking, I guess that I have been well warned to stay out of London!

Simply being homophobic is a crime?!?! Ouch. Don't spiders have rights, too? Shouldn't all women with arachnophobia be rounded up as well?

People should not have to go through life being subjected to ARREST because of who they are or what they believe in.

They do if they let their government turn them into disarmed sheep.

Their government can do anything it wants to them, and they have to lay there and pretend to love it.

"People should not have to go through life being subjected to abuse because of who they are or what they believe in."

Unless, of course, if you are white, Christian and conservative.

Well, yeah. But, heck, that goes without saying!

While successfully arresting 37 persons suspected of ill-feelings towards Muslims, the British Police ignored the 84 houses suspected of housing Muslim Terrorist bomb labs.

That the author put rape and "homophobic harassment" in the same sentence is as disturbing as any of the facts presented in the article...

Exactly.

In 1984 they had the daily 'Two Minutes Hate' so everyone could get it out of their system, plus the annual 'Hate Week' festivities. Of course the target of all this hate was the diabolical revolutionary outlaw Emmanual Goldstein, so I'm not sure that jew-hating wasn't politically correct in that world. But it should be remembered that in Airstrip One, actions meant nothing.... it was the thought of unorthodoxy that was the crime. I wonder what the definition of "hate crime" is in England?

"How come they don't get the Islamacists for "Hate Crimes"? They hate everyone that isn't a Muslim."

Some people are uppity. They wouldn't dare bother with them, else they'd have trouble. Busybodies only bother those they can effectively intimidate.

When I first spied this headline, I thought it had to be a parody from The Onion. Raided 150 homes? How can that be? Did they have informants in the neighborbood who claimed to have heard something "hateful" come out of someone's mouth?

This is bizarre.

I wonder what the definition of "hate crime" is in England?

I found this by using the link in post #47.

What is Hate Crime?

Hate Crime is a broad term taken to mean any crime where the perpetrators' prejudice against an identifiable group of people is a factor in determining who is victimised. This would include race, homophobia, disability and religious grounds. So if an individual believed she/he is a victim because he/she is part of a group, the crime would be recorded as a hate crime.

What is Surrey Police policy on Hate Crime?

Surrey Police with its partners take hate crime very seriously and treat them as a priority when they are reported. This means we want to increase the reporting of such incidents and take positive action wherever possible.

So what's the difference between these British fascists and the Italian fascists of the 1930s -- or the Taliban for that matter?

Here's what they have when you click on the "What happens when I report a Hate Crime?" link.

What happens when I report a Hate Crime?

The current Hate Crime Policy states that you will be spoken to in person - unless you have reported the incident anonymously - and kept up to date with the enquiries. Make a note of the officer's FIN no. and/or police station. This will enable you to contact them by phone. Surrey Police has voicemail, so a message may be left for the officer by dialling 01483 482111 and following the instructions given.

But this link is where they take the cake:

How can I report a hate crime?

Telephone: In an emergency call 999, and ask for the police - there should be a fairly immediate response. Otherwise call 01483 571212, the Surrey Police switchboard operator will put you through to the call centre. A member of staff will take your details and those of the incident; a police officer will be allocated to call on you. Alternatively you may call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111. This is a confidential system that allows for information to be recorded.

At a Police Station:
You may call at any police station to report an incident to the Counter Clerk or a police officer. Please note that most police stations are only open to the public during the day and early evening.

Online Reporting:
You can use this website to report a hate crime and you can chose to remain anonymous; just click on the Report a Hate Crime button and follow the online instructions to complete the form.
