As I pointed out, this was in 89-91. This was well before California's elimination of the exemption for registration of sales by private dealers at gun shows.
I might also point out that the branches of the service and the Defense Deparment admit that there is a documented problem with theft of grenades, flash suppressors, guns, ammo, explosives, rocket launchers, large ammo clips and other ordnance from installations. While some of this stolen equipt is sold or traded on the street, some of it also finds its way into gun shows where it is sold or traded, sometimes by the military personnel who stole it. Hey, maybe some of the dealers don't know what they're selling or to whom they are selling it-- I saw that sometimes the stuff is still crated, but others might know what they are selling and to whom. I find it a tad alarming.
I don't know what eventually happened to the Afghan buyers or the sellers. But, the transactions were being recorded by federal agents for some purpose which, at that particular time, did not include an immediate arrest of anyone. I presume they shared my interest in the black and grey marketeering of stolen military property. Maybe not. Maybe they were actually making certain the Afghans got whatever they needed to fight the Soviets.

This was well before California's elimination of the exemption for registration of sales by private dealers at gun shows. Grenades and machine guns fall under NFA 34 and have required registration and the $200 tax since 1934, irrespective of state laws. The law covers silencers, short-barrelled shotguns and rifles, cannons >50 cal, machine guns, and also explosives known as "destructive devices." It's a federal law, ostensibly passed as a tool to control gangsters, but now enforced on its own right irrespective of the criminal or rosy pasts of its violators.

Or visas for free entry into the US, or green cards from ins or...the list is enough to make one weep, on the other hand, who needs a visa or green card when the border is a sieve.

I go to gun shows at quite often, but I've never seen a bomb at one, yet.
But it's easy for the local farmers to buy dynamite. Maybe we should start Farmer Control.

A lot of laws are passed; it doesn't mean they are not violated or immediately enforced at the time of commission. The fact that there are illegal sales of weapons cannot have gone unnoticed by you or others. All, I am saying is I saw the purchases go down--money change hands. I did not see any arrests of the men with tea cozies on their heads at the shows I was at.

"...buying ... grenades and automatic ...weapons..."
I'll bet next year's salary that you are:
1> outright intentionally lying;
2> unable to differentiate between between auto and semi-auto;
3> unable to differentiate between between live and practice grenades;
4> a dumb ass
or
5> all of the above.

Hopefully, most people are smart enough to see through an obvious propaganda campaign. Expect to see a lot more attempts to advance social agendas by propaganda ploys playing up whatever ephemeral links to terrorism they can come up with.

Sadly, CBS is as ignorant as the Dumocrats. After this past election, it should be clear to even Dan Blather that the American public is not going to be hoodwinked anymore. Terrorists don't buy guns at gunshows, why would they? They are to busy buying C-4.

if you outlaw guns, no citizens will be alive to support the government anyway! Try this wording and you will have nailed their intent perfectly ...
if you outlaw guns, no citizens will be able to resist the government anyway!

I'll give you some advice--only make bets when you are certain of the facts--I would hate to see you lose next year's salary. Otherwise, your chad might not be the only thing hanging.
