Is it true that the DSA site used to have those songs? Guess "Democratic Socialism" really is an oxymoron.

The Progressive Caucus? Isn't that the group that lost several members in the primaries (most prominently Ms. McKinney), several more to retirements, their sole Senator to a plane crash (Wellstone), and even more in the Tuesday Tsunami? They had 58 members of Congress in 2001 (11% of all Congress, and 24% of all Democrats). I wonder how many they have now.

"Progressive"... has a nice ring to it... But as the old adage goes, "If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck... it's a duck!"

If these "Progressives" think they can repackage their liberalism with a more appealing name, I think they may be mistaken. I didn't see one political advertisement (in the Washington DC - NYC/NJ/CT corridor) that proudly proclaimed a liberal politician or the "liberal" or "democrat" policies and/or values of that politician. Talk about the Third Rail of politics: I'd say it's the word "liberal"!

Are You Sleeping, Bourgeoisie

Traditional American song, sung in rounds to the tune of "Frere Jacques".

Are you sleeping, Are you sleeping,
Bourgeoisie, Bourgeoisie,
And when the revolution comes,
We'll kill you all with knives and guns,
Bourgeoisie, Bourgeoisie

The way progressives use the term democracy... I think it could be well argued that democracy and socialism are the same thing. What it really is is Bread and Circuses.

You can run but you can't hide.

Archived Progressive Caucus pages from 1996 Democratic Socialists of America web site

Check out the Rogues Gallery (the Prog. Caucus membership list).

Some Prog. Caucus pages were never archived, but all exsiting pages have a link back to the Democratic Socialists of America home page from which the Prog. Caucus site was originally hosted (see upper left link of any archived Prog. Caucus web page).

By the way, the Prog. Caucus link to Democratic Socialists of America is memorialized for all time courtesy of The Internet Archive, www.http://webdev.archive.org/

A search on "GoogleNews" minutes ago turned up 37 stories containing the name "D'Alesandro," which is Nancy Pelosi's maiden name. Eight of those stories do not concern her. The other 29 do.

The most extensive reference to the D'Alesandro story is, not surprisingly, from the Baltimore Sun. It even has two quotes from her brother, Tommy D'Alesandro, III, who was, like his father, a Mayor of Baltimore. But none of those stories makes any mention that the City, under the D'Alesandros, was as crooked as a dog's hind leg.

None of those stories mentions what I did in my last column, that a rape charge and several corruption charges were squashed or dismissed against the younger Tommy D'Alesandro, by prosecutors controlled by the family and with the compliance of judges controlled by the family.

The Baltimore Sun article, while studiously ignoring the corruption in Baltomore at the time, does spend time and ink praising Nancy Pelosi for "learning constituent services" in working for her father and her brother. Given Pelosi's background of absolute loyalty to the Democrat "leaders" regardless of what they have done, it is no surprise that she took the lead in the House defending the conduct of Bill Clinton, and also no surprise that she was the only woman in the House to defend Gary Condit.

Click below, or visit the FR thread of this name, to see what I wrote about the person who will become Minority Leader for the Democrats in the House, tomorrow morning. My article's title is: "This Just In: Bush Defeats Clinton." The Pelosi comments are near the end.
