The Heart of Texas Chapter (HOT) of Free Republic would like to invite any interested Freepers and their families to join us on Saturday, November 23rd for a day at the George H.W. Bush Library and Museum in College Station, Texas. We will meet at noon inside the entrance to the museum. Afterwards we plan to go to a local restaurant for some good food and conversation.

You will enjoy the Bush Library. And I may be a bit biased, but A&M is a great school which is highly rated and getting even better every year. I hope my nephews go to A&M

I can't believe I'm such a relatively short drive from College Station and haven't been to the library yet. Looking forward to this. I agree about A&M -- my teenage daughter is determined to go to A&M and we will combine a short campus tour with the library visit. We are thrilled she wants to be an Aggie!

I'm another Freeper living in College Station. Chicken Oil and Wings-N-More will give you the best flavor of Aggieland. C&J's is good too. Another good BBQ place is Martin's, but is very small. It's been there forever -- run by the same family for 50++ years. Another Ag favorite. Good prices, too. No, 'most' of the Freebirds' patrons don't have spiked hair and body piercings, but it does have more of a 'liberal' feel. Never knew that it had an Austin linkage, but now I know why I always did take-out. However, I liked the food. Might be interesting to have a group of Freepers invade the place.

I think that weekend it will be rather quiet around campus because there is not a football game that weekend and some of the kids may be leaving for an early Thanksgiving break. So unless there is an event I'm not aware of, the restaurants shouldn't be real crowded. Bryan/College Station lives and breathes with the comings and goings of the students.

You can also check out the A&M website (www.tamu.edu) to get maps and other info.

Please consider this your personal invitation, and join us.

I think we should bump this thread a few more times as there may be some who haven't seen it.

Glad y'all will be coming. Everything is coming together, it's going to be a fun trip. Still finalizing all the nitty-gritty details (explaining to everyone where to park, where to gather, procedure to check in and get your discounted ticket, etc, etc.). Will be posting the details in next day or two, I'll be sure to ping y'all when I do.

Well, I'm not sure what the "tea-sip" reference means, but I gather it involves a little Longhorn/Aggie feuding, LOL.

FYI, this is actually the AUSTIN (Heart of Texas) FR Chapter that's organinzing the trip, does that help? We came up with the idea as a nice day-trip, and decided to invite FReepers from all over the whole darn state -- so c'mon down! This trip's not about burnt orange or maroon and white -- it's all about FReeper colors: the red, white and blue. ;-)

That restaurant across from the Excel is now La Bodega, a tex-mex place. There are much better mexican eateries in town.

The way I hear it, Freebirds started out in Long Beach, CA. Then, somebody bought out the business and moved it to College Station. It was well-established in CS before they opened up another location in Austin.

Thanks for the info. I hope you can join us. IIRC, Chicken Oil is up College Main? Wings-N-More(what does the more represent?) is across the main campus entrance on Texas Ave.
I remember a Freebirds on Northgate but the seating was a bit limited. BTW, it's actually the employees with the spiked hair and body piercings at the Austin location(even more so than the Thundercloud Subs). It really makes you wonder where they recruit. I think Constitutionalist Conservative mentioned that C&J's was 2 miles east of Post Oak mall on Harvey(I don't remember anything being east of the HWY6 Bypass)

No slight intended.(I have 2 brothers that are t-sips and it makes for an interesting Thanksgiving). You just weren't listed on the FR Texas page or on Gracey's or someone elses list. Send a FReepmail to Gracey or TXBubba to get on the HOT list.

I guess the tentative plans are to grab a light lunch then meet at the Library at noon, view the different displays for a few hours, then find a place to go eat?
