[ACTIVISM] The Next Agenda Item For Free Republic
Self | November 7, 2002 | Self

Posted on 11/07/2002 6:25:30 AM PST by Illbay

The focus for FReepers in the election cycle just concluded was to take back the Senate. 77% of FReeperdom opined that this was "critical."

This has now occurred, and congratulations are in order.

Now, we have to reset the agenda. Of course, there are many agenda items already set, such as homeland security, confirmation of judges, making tax cuts permanent, passing a budget, etc. And before we know it, the 2004 election cycle will be upon us.

But before ANY of that can take place, I submit there is one item that is MOST important, before all of those.

The Senate is ours, but only just. One less Senator, and we'd be back to "parity," with Mr. Cheney representing the tie breaking vote--and we all remember where that led.

The new majority leader is likely to be the OLD majority leader, Trent Lott of Mississippi. It should come as a surprise to few here on FR that Sen. Lott has a very, very small coterie of admirers here. In short, we consider him basically spineless, and far too accomodating to the Democrats, not to mention "moderates" and RINOS such as McCain, Snow, Chaffee and others.

When the Senate proceeds with its business next year, the Dems will have had months to recover from their defeat. If the past is any indication, they will come back swinging, under the assumption that "stupid people" elected Republicans, and any "mandate" from "stupid people" can be ignored. This is precisely what happened after 1994--when the shift that gave the entire Congress to the Republicans was far more dramatic than this year--and by the next year (with Boy Clinton's help) they had painted the Pubbies into a corner. I don't believe the Republicans have EVER really taken the initiative as a result.

It's time to help our Republican Senators, in particular, to see that you cannot accomodate Democrats. They don't accomodate; they see any attempt to "reach out" to them as weakness, and they take full advantage.

After the 2000 election, even though the Dems were still in the minority, they took advantage immediately to demand "power sharing." Mr. Lott, of course, was quick to accomodate them, and the result was that a few months later they were calling Tom Daschle "Majority Leader."

This time, it can't happen. Democrats have to be kept on the defensive, and off balance. Things are far too critical now. Beside the war on terrorism, we have judges to confirm, and much critical legislation to pass. We have no time for Democrat shenanigans.

But we KNOW those shenanigans are going to occur. Believe me, it's NOT going to take long for the Dems to rally. They are infallibly convinced of their own superiority. They are willing to stop at nothing to get their way.

I propose that we begin discussions on how we can help Mr. Lott, for one, grow a spine. He and the Republican Senate leadership need help from loyal conservatives to see the evil that they face (you'd think they could see it for themselves, but they continue to surprise me).

This, to me, is JOB NO. 1 for Free Republic at this time. I'd like to solicit ideas on how to accomplish this. FR has proven to be a great voice for responsible government. This task is tailor-made for us.

FReegards to all.

I repeat: I didn't post it in "Breaking." Perhaps there is a software glitch, I don't know. I know the difference between "Breaking" and "Free Republic." This post isn't "Breaking," so I would not have intentionally put it there.

Well, I will accept your word that you did not intentionally put it in there - you might have made a mistake in posting. That happens. However, that does not change the fact that it was in Breaking News, but you attacked me for claiming that it was - if you would have simply said "sorry" the first time, I would have dropped it there. But instead you had to fire back and claim we were mistaken, when we weren't.

You might consider reading Isaiah 29:21, btw. It might help you in dealing with others more smoothly.

BWHAHAHA! Illbay, the poster of a flame-bait vanity who then gets after others for posting simple commentary vanities. Regarding your vanity post campaign, it may have merits, but you ain't the one in a position to get after others here. You might consider reading John 8:7 to help YOU deal with others more smoothly here.

I'm truly sorry that you people don't understand the original reason for being for FR. I know that you think that it is your own private "chat board" where you can, for example, relive the glories of the days of slavery, or swap dirty jokes, or whatever, but the fact is that it has ALWAYS been a site for ACTIVISM.

I guess it's time to take you to school.

The vanity posts that have overrun this board in the last month or so (such as THIS ONE), are pointless, and without any redeeming merit whatsoever. Neither are posts that give a solitary opinion on some minute point, when that point could be made on an existing NEWS thread.

NEITHER are posts that ask silly questions, like "how is XXXX doing in the YYYYYY race in ZZZZZZZZ (state)?" which can easily be answered by the NON-LAZY by going to cnn.com.

Finally, there is AMPLE room for pointless and trivial vanity posts in the "General Interest" forum. That's the reason it was created.

Now, look at this post of mine: It is put in "News/Activism." It is ACTIVISM, is that clear to you? We are formulating a strategy for having as much input as FReeperly possible in the new Senate. This is a golden opportunity; we don't want to waste it.

In fact, it is FAR more important than the endless gibberings about how wonderful it was one hundred forty years ago when cotton and the white man was king.

So, any of you trying to point the fingers, you're just displaying your abject ignorance here. And believe me, others see it as well--I've gotten lots of emails talking about how stupid you're being.

So think about that, before you continue this silly charade of yours. You have no idea how idiotic it is making you appear.

OTOH, if you have something POSITIVE to contribute, regarding how we can together help to INFLUENCE the Senate leadership, please feel free to do so.

Cong. Billybob (and I hope your re-election went smoothly), this is the point I'm making. We can talk till the cows come home about who should replace Lott, but he's there, and we're stuck with him.

The question should now be "how do we keep him on the reservation, and keep him from falling for the same stupid Dem tricks that Daschle and Co. (not to mention their willing accomplices in the media) are going to try to pull again?

I have little respect for Mr. Lott. He has let us down, time and time again. But he DOES seem to respond to pressure in lieu of having a brain of his own. And that pressure can be an effective tool, if wielded by the right people (i.e. "Us")

Once again, you gave a WHOLE RAFT of incredibly good ideas, and thank you for them.

Don't lecture me, Illbay - or have you forgotten this vanity post:

Perfect One Liner for Debating Libertines

Talk about no redeeming features - just a flame bait one-liner that was destined for the Smokey Backroom from the moment it was posted. I'm well aware of the rules, and do a lot of work helping the mods with this site. You just come across as a gross hypocrite, starting a flame-bait vanity and then bitching when others post their own vanities. Do as I say, not as I do. So the grief you've gotten on this thread is well-deserved. And, once again, you DID post this into breaking news, and then claimed you didn't, and then basically called us idiots for claiming such. And then you wonder why the flaming is drawn out.

Now you're being a real jerk. How many FR protests have YOU been to, Illbay? Don't lecture me about activism, jack. Admit you were wrong to post that flame-bait vanity as you lectured others about vanity posts, and I'll back off. Until then, you're just a hypocrite who will slime and debase members of FR in good standing to avoid admitting error. Sounds a lot like the Clintons.

Again, I don't think we can get around Lott. We have to go OVER him. We have to figure out how to let him know that the Dems didn't lose by some fluke; they lost because they were messin' with a very popular, conservative President, and because they and their cronies (such as Bonior and McWhatshisname) are DISSING the United States of America at a time when we've been brutally attacked.

First, we can have NO POWER SHARING with these cretins, NONE. They LOST, and WE WON. WE have the power. WE THE PEOPLE have loaned it to our "leaders" who, if they'll grow a real quick pair, have the chance to bring this nation back from ruin.

In the future, potentially, we MIGHT even find the opportunity to roll back, even if just marginally, some of the government encroachment that has plagued us steadily for decades.

But first, we have to eliminate ANY NOTION on the part of the Dems and the media that they are still players. And BELIEVE ME, they are going to recover from their shell-shock quickly, and start demanding a ****ing "piece of the action," which they have NOT earned and DO NOT DESERVE.

In fact, I now fully believe that, had it not been for widespread voter fraud in 2000, they would have been silenced long ago. There should by rights be three or four more Senators and about a dozen more Reps from the GOP sitting right now.

The crimes of the Clintons have taken their toll, but now we have gotten on firm ground, and it's time to push back.

But if Lott starts mumbling and simpering about "bipartisanship," I'm going to get a chill up my spine that may not go away.

I'm tired of having to give the Democrats any notice whatsoever. It's time to start acting like WE'RE the people who won, by golly!!!

Have them contact me, Illbay, and I'll belive your claim here. I won't be mad at them.

I'm not saying this post is wrong - I'm saying your vanity campaign was hypocritical, and your post #48 was wrong, because you DID post this into Breaking News.

I agree with you here, but unfortunately the White House doesn't - they are already saying they will work with Dems and being all nice-nice. So that kinda puts Lott in a difficult position. It's not easy for me to be sympathetic to the guy, but since Bush is now the kingmaker, he has to go along with what the White House wants.

That's not the issue. You say this crap to me:

When I have been quite active. I don't need any schooling from the likes of you.

Bingo.
McConnell is the obvious choice, IMO, for Senate majority leader.... he's one of the few with the cojones to stand and deliver some hard truth on the Senate floor.

Okay, there's a great point, especially in light of the fact that it looks like all these judges that were 'dissed' by Daschle and Co. may well be renominated.

We can use that as a jumping-off point: "Mr. Lott, you KNOW that you and the GOP were roundly disrespected during that short but nightmarish time when the Dems were 'in power.' Please remember that they CANNOT be trusted, no matter how docile they may seem. They will turn on you, just as they have done before. Judge Pickering was imminently qualified then, and he is just as qualified now which is why Pres. Bush is going to renominate him. Please remember all that went before, and don't listen to a word that the Dems have to say about any of our nominees. Don't give them ANYTHING. It's time that they started coming to US for favors. They owe us, BIG TIME!"

"Working with them" is fine. You HAVE to work with them.

Giving them a single inch of power, is NOT fine. They deserve NOTHING, N-O-T-H-I-N-G. We gave them a respectable share of power, and they twisted the knife as soon as they possibly could. They based their disrespectful attitude on "winning" an election that they very likely stole.

They have used up all their favors, and now THEY OWE US.

Given the olive branches currently being tossed to the Dems by the White House, methinks the White House would be a better target of this message than Lott. Of course, considering what Bush just accomplished, I think they have a better stateregy than most of us on FR may be willing to admit (misspelling deliberate).

Okay, look: Truce. This is pointless. I'm sorry if I showed you disrespect. That was wrong, and I apologize.

Peace.

We have common enemies. I suggest that we turn our animus toward them.
