Officials from other counties have to count the Shannon County ballots after they finish with their own.

If the remaining precincts are the same size as the ones already reported, and if the margin in the remaining precincts is the same as it was for the whole county in which the precinct is located, then Johnson nets a total 772 votes. Leaving Thune with a lead of about 120 votes.

There is no mystery with this particular setup. These areas of SD are remote, and backward by any measure. It really is to be expected that they are late to report. In addition, there was a computer breakdown during last evening which halted the tabulation of some SD areas. It required sending to Nebraska for spare parts.
