Official: CIA Killed Al Qaeda Suspects in Yemen
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A missile fired by an unmanned CIA (news - web sites) drone hit a car believed to be carrying suspected al Qaeda members in Yemen Sunday and killed several occupants, a U.S. official said Monday.
Mon Nov 4, 5:18 PM ET A Predator Unmanned Aerial Vehicle is seen with a Hellfire-C laser guided missile under one wing in this file photo from a February 21, 2001 test flight at Nellis Airforce Base in Nevada. A missile fired by an unmanned CIA (news - web sites) drone hit a car believed to be carrying suspected al Qaeda members in Yemen November 4, 2002 and killed several occupants a U.S. official said November 5. Six alleged al Qaeda members were believed killed including a key suspect in the bombing of the USS Cole (news - web sites). While the CIA is known to operate armed Predator aircraft, it could not be confirmed if the Predator was used in this attack. (USAFMC/Reuters)
The official, who asked not to be identified, told Reuters the American military was not involved in the attack, which reports from Sanaa said killed six alleged al Qaeda members, including a key suspect in a bombing attack on the U.S. warship Cole in Aden two years ago.
"As I understand it, it was an agency drone" that conducted the weekend strike, said the U.S. official, who did not provide any details.
The Defense Department and CIA refused to comment on the incident, but Yemen's news agency reported in Sanaa that a car explosion had killed six alleged members of al Qaeda. The radical Muslin group led by fugitive Osama bin Laden (news - web sites) is blamed by Washington for the devastating attacks on America in September of last year.

I read somewhere on FR that those UAVs can stay in the air for a long time, days even. And then deliver the Hellfire right on target.
Good shooting CIA!

The whole premise that this is politically timed is absolutely stupid. First of all, it would have been better politically if we'd been hitting these guys like this for the past three months. THAT would help politically. The theory also requires one to believe that we can take out these guys anytime President Bush so wishes. That's ridiculous too.

I think that the most telling part of CNN's view is the Quick Poll at the bottom of their homepage asking: "Was it right for the US to execute a terror suspect without a trial?
"This is C-N-N!"

Oh, I'm sorry Jiggy, only one guess per contestant. But as Chad used the answer Farfigflattened. which is an idea rather than a model the contest continues. Any takers?
Note: Jiggy, if you had responded with only Yugone you'd have it hands down.
Okay people bring it on...

So, did the al-Qaeda jerks oblige Pres. Bush by taking off on their cross-country jaunt, right under the guns of the CIA drone, on the day before the election?
It was simple fortuitousness, just like the revelation about Pryor in ARK.

I'm sure some witty person has already suggested this, but here goes...
Looks like the old phrase of "maybe outmanned, but never outgunned" needs updated to
MAYBE UNMANNED, BUT NEVER OUTGUNNED
nice to see our tax dollars have bought some useful technology.

I though Clinton said he'd hunt down those who bombed the Cole.
Clinton lied, of course. There were hot babes to chase. Hey, it's a matter of priority!
