In perilous times such as these, filled with Breaking News on practically an hourly basis, words of war, debate about the war, an upcoming election, and scandal after scandal foisted upon this country, it is time that we FR "regulars" share helpful hints and recipes to get us through these busy days and nights ahead, logged on to FR continuously, all the while trying to maintain a "real life" -- or, at the very least, trying to maintain the appearance of one!
Please use this thread to share your experiences -- "what worked for you," if you will -- of past elections and breaking news cycles, in order to help our newest forum members understand what is coming their way -- and the preparations they must make in order to survive and still have somewhat of a life (not to mention brain) in tact after November 5th and the days that follow.
Realizing that new blood brings fresh ideas, us "old-timers" are open to any and all suggestions from any current Freepers who may have a better idea!
This IS the thread for
"Food for Breaking News"
and
"Helpful Household Tips to Free Up Time to Freep."

Thanks for the link, because I won't be surprised if Free Republic goes tilt. Gotta go stock up on beer this afternoon, it's gonna be a long day tomorrow. 8^)

I dig your jive! The bad knews is that it seems some aren't depending on John Q. Public to vote for them. They are depending on John "Sue" Public to support their lawsuits.

Thanks. I printed it off and will begin making my master list...have a great day

Thanks for that one. I'll link it from time to time!
Do you remember that Real Clear Politics had the absolute BEST reference for Electoral College votes in 2000? I'll check to see if there's anything on their site like that this year!

I've had a lot of help - this is my first stint as election judge here. (I've clerked before, but it was years ago).

You know, I could set up a chat room on MIRC! I type way too slow for chat rooms.
Free Dominion is a Canadian version of Free Republic.
I think started by some of our fellow freepers north of the boarder.
FRiendly shelter in a storm.

In a way, I kind of feel like an outside observer. I know who's going to be my governor, my odious congress critter, my hideous state assemblycreep, my state senator, etc. Anything interesting up by you?
I guess I'll just be here to cheer on the others. :)

I did manage to go Christmas shopping in 2000....my family got a lot of items from the electronic dept.....tv's, dvd players, playstation and games.....you see, the electronic depts have tv's playing all the time, I would act like I was interested in buying and would change the channels to FNC so I wouldn't miss any late breaking election news.....my hubby caught on pretty quick and said that he was going to arrange a family intervention on my behalf.

I vote we send Jim Robinson a case of duck tape....this site has got to stay up or I will be residing at Broughton ("home" for mentally deprived).
One easy and very tasty meal for the coming marathon can be prepared now.....nourishing soup (this one has meat and 2 veggies):
1. Peal and cube potatoes.
2. Add one large chopped up onion.
3. Put in salt and pepper and small hunk of butter.
4. Cover w/water and boil down until potatoes are soft. Leave a little water.
Stir in one can of broken up corned beef.
5. Add milk. Heat. Serve with Zesta crackers.

State Senate. Andrew Eristoff vs. Green Party commie & incumbent Liz Krueger. I hope she goes down in great big impressive flames.

I have cooked BIGTIME the last three weeks so that if this runs on and on for a month or more in the courts, my family will be well fed.
I paid all the bills and scheduled payments thru Jan so none of those nasty late fees for us.
I was going to do all the Christmas shopping but decided I refuse to believe it could possible go on that long.
I have refilled our blood presure medicines, both pharmacutical and libational.
I have lost eight pounds since, while it's hard for me to find time to cook full meals, it's equally hard for me not to eat chocolate.
Today, I'm cleaning as much as I can force myself to. Tomorrow, I'm the early shift driver on call but by 4, I'll be here with M&Ms in hand. :-)

Anyone who thinks that we will know the result of the election on Wednesday morning is fooling themself. The Demos are going to have every critical election tied up in the courts until 19Jan. or even later than that!

family intervention I have been threatened with that myself. I'll have to be a little stealthy today but have put my husband on alert that tomorrow and Wednesday are my days!

Checklist would be fantastic. No matter how much you study the races, it's confusing. My only hope is that CNN and MSNBC don't start their predictions before CA closes their voting but I just suspect they will and if it happens, all Freepers should be on the phone to them. I was calling CNN minute by minute in 2000 but we need a few million Freepers calling them...okay?

I have a couple of helpful hints so you will have more time to freep. 1. Wear your glasses only when freeping. That way you won't see the dirt in the house. 2. There are people out there who will bring cooked food right to your door. Find them. 3. Who says you can't wear your nightgown all day?
These things have been very helpful for me. Allowing me to freep long hours without interruption. ;9} *smile*

Here's something that the RNC sent to me that you can send to your entire address book. It's really cute.

Fox: Jesse Ventura holding a press conference in 1 1/2 hours..to announce his appointment of senator to fill out Wellstone's current term.
To: BlessedAmerican
This is a good site:
RealClear Politics
BTW, Fox News just reported that Ventura WILL appoint an independent to Wellstone's seat!
