I thank you both for contributing so much of your time and energy to help preserve the integrity of our election process. Hopefully the Republican turnout will be high and voting will go smoothly.

WOW! Good going! It is no surprise to me this nonsense is going on.

I heard people calling in the local talk station in the Twin Cities this morning, saying the election judge where they happened to be voting was really awful... one old man went to put his ballot in upside down into the reader machine, and she told him "it won't work, you put it in upside down" and then she pressed the "accept" button and told him he could leave now.

He just stood there looking confused!

She did that to the next guy too, the machine said "ballot uncounted" and she pressed the "accept" button and told him to leave too. The guy who called the radio station was next and said "I don't understand, how come you keep pressing that when it seems there is a problem with the ballot?" And of course there was a problem with his too and she seemed to indicate that you just press that to fix it. ???!!!

nicmarlo I'm copying your post #66 below and pinging my friends:

CALLING ALL FREEPERS:

Sorry for the hail to this thread, but I thing this is important: please read, especially the part I quoted in red. According to a FReeper "spy," the Rats said they were going to prevent Republicans poll watching by RAT lawyers.

our "spy" . . . when he came out, he said . . . They were told that there would be attorneys posted at every precinct to prevent poll watchers from challenging ANY ballots. . . There is an all out campaign by these people to intimidate the poll watchers and then turn around and accuse us of voter intimidation. . . . get other FReepers on the case to get this publicized and contact appropriate media, political and legal sources to alert them that Republican poll watchers in this county are likely to be facing an organized, all-out Rat attack.

PLEASE PING YOUR LISTS so we can get the word out. Thanks.

First off, thank you all!

Quick report from my first poll watch.

I got to my station about 30 minutes before the polls opened this morning and met the staff assigned there, all very nice people. I showed my credentials and took my place where I was supposed to, behind the table, no closer than six feet from the voter.

When the polls opened, traffic was slow. In fact, it was slow the entire time I was there. By the time I left there had been just a little over one hundred voters.

The election official had been told that if they personally knew a person they didn't have to show an ID. Arkansas has eleven ID's that are acceptable. I explained that the law states they DO have to show an ID. I politely told her that while she may know the people, I did not. I also called my superior who came by and verified what I had said. From that point on ID WAS asked for.

I had only one challanged vote for no ID and there was no complaining from the official or the voter.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, and as I explained last night, my leg was giving me major problems. About 3:30 I couldn't take the pain any more so I called for a replacement. The moment my replacement arrived we had the second challenged vote.

I was stationed in an all black precinct and only heard one man grumble about having to show ID. However, he did present proper identification and there was no trouble. I did hear there was some trouble at a couple other precincts though.

All in all, it was a great experience and I look forward to being a watcher again!

We should never cow to those driven by emotionalism.... and how much more deadly is it to give in to them when they can switch it on and off like that?

Britt Hume announced that a few minutes ago. Since Prior is supposedly winning, does this mean they are trying to steal the governorship or is the Senate race not as close as we've been led to believe.
