Paul Begala Hints that Chaffee will Switch Parties
700, WLW Radio (Jim Scott Show) | 0600, 30 Oct 02

Posted on 10/31/2002 1:30:43 PM PST by xzins

In an interview with radio host Jim Scott in the morning slot on WLW700 in Cincinnati, Begala was asked if there were others who could affect the election by switching parties.

Begala's comment was, "Linc Chaffee" just might do so.

I was struck by the use of "Linc." I meant to post this yesterday, but just remembered. Begala did not give much credibility to McCain switching.

Zell would be very welcome. He 's an old-style conservative democrat. I suspect, though, they have something on him to keep him from jumping.

No flames from moi. I think this will happen. The rats have known for a long time that they had 2 full blown RINOS with which to use. They'll pull "Linc" out when & if they need him. This is simply more cashin' in from Hillary's FBI files, or at the very least a big deposit in Linc's off shore account. Take your pick.

If the electorate chooses to send more Republicans than Democrats to the Senate and the individual members of the Senate once again thwart the electorate, then Republicans in the area of the jumper should start a recall drive.

I don't think any major politician is going to switch parties till they see where Jeffords ends up with the voters. It won't be pretty but if Jumping Jim dodges the bullet and saves his career as his supporters wish(fat chance), we'll see a few switches.

Well, this liberal college professor says it is our duty to vote straight party, and ignore the candidates.

A cure for ticket-splitting headaches

If memory serves me right, Linc has said on several occasions that if the GOP gains the majority he will jump. I suspect though that after seeing Jeffords promised the moon and given nothing but the crack he may be more reluctant to do so.

It's true we do vote for candidates, not parties. However, a candidate takes money from their political party and that is where the dishonesty comes in. And many still do vote only along party lines so they have been deceived. These politicians should wait until the next election to switch, if they don't want to be hypocrites. But when has that mattered to many of them?

"Linc" better pay attention to the new election year game called "disappearing Democratic Senators" from areas where the Dems need new life in a loser campaign.

How does a candidate accept the votes of one group of citizens, for instance, the Republicans...take office, and then switch to the party of the group that did not elect him or her?

That is an ethical mind-blower!

Chaffee is closer to Wellstone than most republicans - and if you noticed, his name was left out of the party hack's speech at the Wellstone "memorial" when he called on republicans to give up in "memory" of Paul the Socialist.

Screw 'em if he wants to jump ship. The GOP doesn't need any traitors in the party.
