Michigan Republicans plan to station several hundred spotters at heavily Democratic voting precincts Tuesday to challenge voters they suspect are improperly or not registered.

State Democrats say the plan is aimed at intimidating minority voters in Detroit and a few other cities, and to reduce the number of votes for Democratic candidates.

The republican party should pay for poll "watchers" (as we used to call them). They should hire off duty police officers to show up in uniform... in the same way Wal-Mart or someone might hire security guards during the christmas season.

"There's great concern about this effort. It's clearly an effort to suppress Democratic turnout," said state Democratic Party spokesman Ben Kohrman.

Isn't Detroit where it has been reported there are 150,000 (YES, 150,000) more ballots than voters?????????????????

I'm a volunteer poll watcher here at our rural precinct. We arent' paid, but I'll gladly do it. The trainer said that just the IDEA that someone is looking over their shoulders gives the poll "workers" and people who want to do anything funny something to think about.

One scheme here locally is for a husband/wife to come to the counter, one is registered at this location, and one at another. They will express confusion and insist that they are both registered at THIS location, and the poll worker will call down to the probate office and get an okay for both of them to vote at the first location. Then they leave, and try the same thing at the location where the other is registered.

This is what the Rats always say. Why would any legal voter be intimidated by a poll watcher?

Maybe some wealthy challengers will volunteer. When the buses drive up, offer the *voters* $10 to vote Republican and trump the Democratic $5.

I agree with you. I was involved in an election years and years ago that was stolen, by the polling workers at one site. The voting machines (close the curtain and flip switch type) have a digital read out on the back. Not who has been voted for, but how many votes have been cast. At 6pm 1000 votes had been cast (we checked) by 7 pm 2500 had been cast and we got killed in that precinct. Registar looked funny etc. Someone evidently just stepped in and went click click click click click.. etc. We didn't take it to court because of associated costs... but we thumped them the next election. And we had people at the polls all day with pad and pencil watching and writing everything down.

And ... I have poll watched for others as well. It is an important piece of the puzzle.

I expect this to be the crookedest Dem election in Michigan's history. Too much is at stake. Expect there to be a lot of fraud in Detroit with absentee ballots.

"There's great concern about this effort. It's clearly an effort to suppress Democratic turnout," said state Democratic Party spokesman Ben Kohrman. "We want to make it clear that harassment and intimidation of voters is a serious civil rights violation and will be treated accordingly."

This from the party with 150,000 DEAD Democrats (and in some cases DEAD Republicans who had a post-mortem change of party) on the rolls in Detroit? How can you harass a DEAD person?

Correct. That's why the mayor of Detroit asked Granhom for $2 million of her campaign money. Usually when you support a candidate, you give their campaign some money. As a supporter, you normally don't demand money from a campaign.

All Detroit politicians have stashes of dead, non-existent, or multiple "voters" and absentee ballots. They jealously guard their stashes from each other, but for the right "consideration" can throw them all at the right candidate.

Good for the Michigan GOP. I lived in MI for 10 years during the 80's and I know that the conservative wing of the GOP in that state can play hardball; unlike the wimpy GOP nationwide who usually roll over and play dead and let the Dim-o-rats run all over them. The pubbies need a junkyard dog like James Carville.

========================

It's almost like they knew Taylor, Markman and Young were going to win regardless of loaded votes in Wayne, so they didn't even bother messing with it. Notice especially that the number of Bush voters nearly matches the number of Taylor, Markman and Young voters, whereas the Gore voters outnumber the voters for the liberal? candidates by more than 200,000. That, I believe, is the cheat margin.

They spent the time doctoring ballots for Gore and Liberal Debbie, but couldn't spare it in a losing cause for the Supreme Court candidates.

Probably the main reason for this is that you cannot pull a straight party lever for the Supreme Court candidates. You have to mark them each separately. Strange that the Republicans had time to mark their candidates, but the Democrats did not.

========================

Wayne difference ~ 230,000 liberal non-voters in Supremes races.

Gore beat Bush by 220,000 in Michigan.
Stabenow beat Abraham by 65,000.

Excellent analysis. Makes all the sense in the world too. Amazing numbers. You should send this to the Michigan GOP...
