One thing I always wondered about the whole Carnahan deal is what would happen if the deceased candidate was single? Would the Dems install his favorite Hooter's waitress to the Senate in his place?

Remember, so were most of the justices on the NJ Supreme Court. Former Gov. Arne Carlson was a big stinky liberal, elected only because the original candidate, Jon Gruenseth, had some last minute scandal about him skinny-dipping with teenage daughter's friends several years earlier (Red Star paper put out this completely b.s. story a few weeks prior to the election, but Jonny-boy was dipping his wick with someone not his wife, anyway). Irony here is that his dropping out is what prompted the MN legislature to re-write the state's election laws, which was being argued about today.

Here's a good rule to go by: pro-life governor will most likely appoint pro-life judge (i.e., conservative), and chances are law will be upheld; pro-abortion governor will most likely appoint pro-abortion judge (i.e., liberal, even if Republican), and chances are law will not be upheld.

Not at all likely. He's your typical Jessie Jackson-black liberal. Whitey done him wrong. Also, was a terrible private practice attorney, which is why he was in the A.G.'s office to begin with. Got on the bench only because of his celebrity, and his opinions are a joke.

He played his best defensive tackle as a member of the "Purple People-Eaters" (Jim Marshall, Carl Eller and Gary Larsen) when he was around 275 pounds. Late in his career he thought he could be much better (against the team's wishes) if he played at 230 pounds. After getting pushed around for a couple of years by offensive linemen he was traded to the Bears where he was pushed around till the end of his career. Often wondered how he would do as a lawyer, since he has a speech impediment...

in addition to four fingers with NO Super Bowl rings. He retired before he could "lose one for the thumb."

There was triple-digit inflation down in Brazil at the time. It was on the cloudy side of 10% here.

You people who insist that the Dems want the Wellstone absentee votes to count for Mondale are dead wrong and should be ashamed of yourselves. They want the Coleman votes to be counted for Mondale too.

Well, I have a personal horse in this race.

Looks to me like I will not know if I was actually elected for months, as this issue filters through the courts.

This absentee voting issue is going to be a nightmare.

dynamite listening!!! The democrat lawyer ended with a partisan cry to honor Wellstone and the others who died. Hatch is speaking.....on the law, why it's important to follow it as written in Minnesota law. Poor man...he's up against "feelings". It's up to these judges. Are they going to follow the law or are they going to break the law to benefit the democrats.

He played in the late 60's and early 70's. The Cheifs beat Minnesota in 1971 for the championship and he was playing then. The Cheifs haven't been back to the Superbowl since and the Vikings haven't won one in four trys (I think, going from memory, I'm sure someone will set me straight if I'm wrong, LOL).

It would be absolutely unimaginable that votes would be thrown out for a race that has no eligibility issues. They would just count the absentees separately, perhaps making two piles of them (pre and post Wellstone death) and just count all the votes from the other races along with the polling site votes.

No other Florida races were affected by the 2000 vote-divining scandal.

Considering the situation when Carnahan died in the plane crash prior to the election, why didn't EVERY state check their own election laws to see if there was anything needing correction.

Seems to me that this is nothing more than rank opportunism that would be causing howls of indignation if the parties were reversed.

That was one of the legal issues addressed today. Are all absentee ballots invalidated because Wellstone died?

How about the other people being elected at the same time?

Today, I loved listening to the legal arguments. Now we must wait to hear what the Court decides.

This is a situation where it is impossible for all votes to be counted fairly. The best that the government can do, is to follow the current laws and apply them in a fair manner.

Well, if it goes as these things go, the justices will all pray for wellstone then say it is only right to throw out all the ballots. How can you print and mail ballots and get them back before election day? Today is Thursday. Some are sent cross country. I feel the dreaded "let them vote for a month" after the deadline movement enabling our fine dems to go out and buy absentee ballots. Remember when that was an issue in Florida with votes from out of the country.
