Republicans decry service as partisan [LOTT WALKED OUT!!]

Though it was billed as a memorial service, many irate viewers and Republican leaders said the gathering for U.S. Sen. Paul Wellstone and five others degenerated at times into a blatant political rally.

"What a complete, total, absolute sham," said Vin Weber, a former U.S. representative from Minnesota. "The DFL clearly intends to exploit Wellstone's memory totally, completely and shamelessly for political gain. To them, Wellstone's death, apparently, was just another campaign event."

It seems to me that the RATS might be scared. They have no shame in doing things that maybe a few years ago would have seemed a little over the edge, even for them. Unbelievable what they are getting away with these days, but people aren't stupid, and I think that more and more registered democrats are going to start to see right through them.

They'll be discarded like yesterday's newspaper

Not so at all. The ruling class elite like to keep power in the political families -- Kennedy's & Clintons. The Wellstone kids will both be running for office in the future and playing on their name to get elected.

If I didn’t see it myself, I wouldn’t have believed it. As a matter of fact, I’m still not sure if I believe it.

No truer words could be spoken. That is exactly my same feeling!

For them to criticize the Republicans for mentioning "debates" as political and then run a 3-ring circus in a convention atmosphere goes even lower than I thought possible from the DemocRATs. There is absolutely no depth to how low the Clinton DemocRAT Party will go -- the clintons have managed to demonize the entire Party into believing win at any cost matters most! A person's life means squat to these folks!

Don't ever forget what we witnessed last night! And anyone that says the two parties are alike just needed to witness that Convention style campaign event guised as a Memorial Service versus the solemn ceremony for Senator Paul Coverdale of Georgia to understand the basic and most important difference between the two parties -- Republicans honor those that have served and DemocRATs use such an event for another campaign rally! The clinton democRATs are shameless and disgusting with no moral values!

I said it yesterday and will say it again. Like a bunch of flies feeding off of a dead carcass.

The DemonRats want to turn this into an Open-Casket Campaign-where Wellstone's open casket is dragged to every event for people to mourn over..

Well they did it to Lenin when he died.

The communists are just following the traditions passed down by their founding fathers.

It's Minnesota's own "Democrat-Farmer-Labor" party.

Just like our IR "Independant-Republican" party.

We like to be different up here.

"When will the Republicans stop believing that the Democraps are either honest or ethical?"

Amen to that. Republicans slobber all over the rats, and then the rats grin back and kick them in the crotch. When the rats hold the House or the Senate, the Republicans get treated like DOGS. When the Republicans hold either house, they often want to "share".

What's wrong with this picture?

From one who missed everything, thanks! Between this thread and the video links you've provided, I've been very well brought up to speed. Seems like the macabre antics of the left will (or at the very least should) backfire on them this time 'round. If this "memorial" event is a big deal in MN, all the better, in light of the bi-partisan and appropriate accord that politics should take a back-burner while Wellstone's departure was "mourned."

Evidently that was a one-sided agreement, applying only to Republicans, a fact that should be noted by MN voters after last night. The death of a senator, for whatever reason, isn't a carte blanc invitation for the member of one party to assume the post as dems are suggesting.

I don't believe I know anyone who lives in Minnesota, but there must be plenty of FReepers who do. Thanks in advance to those who get out the word of this outrage to family and peers in that state.

I was sickened by their so called Memorial service.

I suppose when you have no God to pray to, this is what you do.

My thoughts, exactly.

Will Trent offer the excuse "I had to catch a plane"?

Minnesota was Clintonized at Wellstone's crass "memorial" pep rally. That isn't egg on your face, Minnesota, it's another substance. How does it feel to have something in common with Monica's stained dress?

Amazing how Wellstone has been gone just days, yet his own sons were able to talk of him in the past tense without so much as a crackle in their voices.

Maybe they should take some acting lessons from the Maestro:

Instead of weeping, cheering. Welcome to bigtime politics 2002, where a memorial service for a tragically killed senator becomes a raucous DNC rally. All that was missing was the balloon drop...

Maybe the DNC can start airing some TV ads showing an ethereal, halo-crowned, bewinged Paul Wellstone, saying something like "I gave my all for progressive causes. The least you can do next Tuesday is cast a vote to continue my legacy. Those of us above are counting on you!"...

Fade to eery white.

Yes if Jesse is retiring any way, why can't a appoint a RIGHT WING to that seat! That would be a major rubbing their nose into it. I would love to see our first black president and his new Yorker ice queen wife comments on Jesse Ventura.
