BROOKLYN PARK, Minnesota (AP) --Pheasant season took an ugly turn for Michael Murray when he was shot by Sonny, his year-old English setter pup.

The puppy knew something was very wrong when Murray dropped to the ground with blood spurting from his ankle. "Sonny just laid by my side," Murray said. "He knew something was bad."

Not funny - sad.

Stupid of the guy to leave a loaded 12 gauge laying around.

Murray admits there is a certain amount of notoriety that goes along with getting shot by your dog. "That's the hard part, talking to people, because you feel like such a fool," he said.

LOL!

Naww... it's funny because it ended without anyone getting seriously hurt. And people have loaded shotguns around while hunting.

I understand your point. This guy failed to keep his gun safe, but the odds of a dog stepping on it and firing it were, I am sure, thought to be much higher before this happened!

Yea ... O.K.

I just had images of my own Dad laying there with his ankle all blown apart.

Glad the old guy will walk again.

I knew a guy who got shot by his cat -- he'd cleaned a pistol, and left it lying, loaded on the table. The cat thought it looked like a fun toy and knocked it off the table. Lucky for him it was only a .22.

A few years later the same guy got hit by a stray bullet. Hit him right over the heart, but the bullet was stopped by some loose change he'd just dropped into his shirt pocket.

I never wanted to stand too close to him....

I think we need to start a coalition to ban dogs, or at least get some sensible dog control laws in place. They are terribly dangerous, and only the police should have easy access to them. [/sarcasm]

This very thing almost happened to me several years ago. I was goose hunting in a pit blind, and left to attend to the decoys. My Lab was ordered to stay at the pit, and I layed the shotgun across the top of the blind. As an afterthought, I cleared the weapon, dropped the bolt, and engaged the crossbolt safety.

While I was out of the blind, the dog knocked the gun so it was pointing at me, then he stepped on the trigger guard which disengaged the safety and dropped the hammer.

LOL. Sounds like you should keep a close eye on that dog... it almost sounds like he'd been practicing!

Hmmm. . . a tore up door vs getting shot. I'd say you got off easy.
