This firearms "expert" should go to work for Terence McAuliffe. He has proved that he will say anything, write anything, fabricate anything, do anything for the success of the liberal point of view. He could also run for Congress in 2004. Sarah Brady could assist him with fundraising.

It wasn't so much that he lied, but that he got caught.

Would the University have kept Bellesiles on had he not resigned? Resigning implies that what Bellesiles did was not bad enough to fire him. In other words, Emory doesn't think what Bellesiles did was all that wrong. That's the message I get. That discredits Bellesiles as much as Emory. Emory failed to act in accordance with upholding honesty. Bellesiles can imply that he is taking the high ground yet he negates that claming he can't bring himself to work in a hostile environment. If it is a hostile environment it warrants Emory firing him. You may be right that Emory effectively fired Bellesiles, but if so, Emory shot itself in the foot by not standing on the honest principle by stating that they were right to fire Bellesiles. How can Emory claim that they allowed Bellesiles to "save face" by resigning knowing that he would attack Emory as being a hostile environment.

They both screwed up and shirk their responsibility to honesty.

More important is the role the Internet and WWW had in exposing the fraud. That trend will continue a geometric increase, not linear.

It seems the esteemed Prof forgot about a contemporary account from the British and King George the III.
It seems that the troops had a small shooting contest (I'm paraphrasing it here, obviously, before the nit-pickers go nuts.):)
Well, the redcoats had the "Big Bess" rifle that was lucky if it was accurate to 75 yards.
The Colonials had what was called "squirrel guns" that could hit a dinner plate at 200 yards. Quite an accomplishment in gun tech at the time.
Well, the British Troops lost, and King George said,"Not fair, that's an 'assault weapon'."
So, King George invented the"Assault Weapon" lie, and was promptly kicked from America's shores for his efforts at redistibuting the wealth in taxes and eliminating 'assault weapons'.
(A man's ability to hunt and farm kept him alive, not to mention defending his home from HOSTILE NATIVES attacking settlements. Ooops, the good prof forgot that too.)

My guess is, had he not quit, slinked off, crawled away, Emory would have assembled a disciplinary committee and they would have completed a review over the next, say, two years, then would have issued a position paper with recommedations for disciplinary action which would have consisted of a couple of well-placed tsk, tsks in his sorry personnel file.

He is just another lefty loser and this is sweet justice...he can cry that he did nothing wrong 'till the cows come home; we know what a lying piece of crap he is and always will be.

Emory University discredited themselves by not firing Bellesiles. That was the main point of post 52. Bellesiles was toast either way -- no college would touch his resume with a ten-foot pole. Had Emory extended the charade as you suggest as an alternative, it would have discredited Emory just as bad, if not worse. IMO, Emory chose what they believed was the lesser of "evils" while ignoring or disregarding a stand on honest principle.

It will be interesting to see what the committee that gave Bellesiles Bancroft Award based on his fraudulent book will do or has to say.
