What the snipers and Moose taught (
Jewish World Review ^ | Oct. 28, 2002 | Marianne M. Jennings

I will not join in the chorus of praises for Chief Moose, head honcho in Montgomery County, Maryland, and the familiar face for overdone press briefings. I shall not applaud nor chant his name as the media did. I have fears and foes not vanquished with the arrest of accused snipers, John Muhammad and John Lee Malvo.

I'm flummoxed as to how two lug heads ducked the noose for so long. For three weeks, a juvenile illegal immigrant with a record and a man with two ex-wives, restraining orders, a pending shoplifting charge, the name Muhammad and anti-American sentiments managed to not just escape detection but also stymie our Keystone Kops.

The former FBI profilers who dominated the cable news shows should be sentenced to real work for their hocus-pocus. This group of babblers got it all wrong and owes apologies to all Southern white males. These profilers, Greta, Donahue, and other liberal wonks who condemn profiling with a vengeance, paraded their skills at it for fees and ratings, so long as white males were the targets. Law enforcement task forces were so convinced of this diagnostic mumbo-jumbo that they thrice stopped John Muhammad and John Lee Malvo during the manhunt, but let them go. Astounding bias, i.e., looking for a white male, interfered with their ability to investigate.

This was humanity at its lowest, profilers assured, a white conservative male who knows how to use a gun. Worse, he is sinister because, they said, he drove what was close in species to that diabolical vehicle, the SUV. The cameras stalked white vans, people dodged white vans, and every officer from here to Mars stopped white vans even as the real culprits lived, drove, and shot in a 1990 blue Chevy Caprice.

Had the moronic Muhammad not sent notes, tipped the police that he was involved in the Alabama shooting, and asked for a $10,000,000 deposit on a stolen credit card, we'd still be watching the crawl on Fox News for other stories as the screen showed white vans in the D.C. area. Muhammad called Chief Moose, family, friends, and local priests, begging to be caught, while demanding coverage.

Still, with the Beltway terrorists barely in custody and the tarot cards just marked for evidence, calls for inane reforms abound. The Bushmaster rifle, weapon of choice for these two ne'er-do-wells, is one target. The New York Times, in a subtle assignment of blame, notes the manufacturer remains quiet. Try enforcement of existing gun laws. When a man with a restraining order applies to buy a rifle, the answer is, "NO!" Mr. Muhammad was able to buy a gun sometime AFTER kidnapping his three children from his ex-wife.

True homeland security requires that PC platitudes and media theories and bias be tossed. These two internal terrorists were an illegal immigrant and a convert to Islam who expressed sympathy for the 9-11 hijackers. So, of course, the headline reads, "Ex-soldier linked to D.C.-Area Probe." Of all the things in John Muhammad's wife-abusing, child-kidnapping, anti-American background, being a soldier is hardly the story lead.

Moose, the media, and law enforcement need to get serious about immigration. John Lee Malvo had been arrested in a number of skirmishes with the law. When his mother reported John Muhammad for domestic violence, the police arrested her and Malvo for violation of immigration laws. They then released them both on $15,000 bond and never saw them again. Here's a solution: deportation. You're here illegally - OUT! You're here legally and arrested --- OUT! INS should be dismantled.

Public schools and colleges and universities provide enforcement tools liberal judges and INS officials have refused to use. Court mandates on providing education to illegal immigrants provide cover. When a child shows up for school, as Malvo did, with no records, no identification and no residence, OUT!

Finally, there comes a point for admissions and statistical reality. The Muslim faith may be a peaceful one, as we are assured regularly, but in the past year, 21 people have visited death, destruction and terror on United States soil. All save young Mr. Malvo were of the Muslim faith, and indications are he was leaning that way. Mr. Muhammad offended his fellow occupants at the Tacoma homeless shelter with his support for the hijackers.

Muslims living in the United States who are sympathetic to terrorists are problematic. Not facing that harsh reality found us enduring 3 weeks of wild goose chases that cost 11 lives and horrific injuries to 2 others. Death, injury, and living in terror. At least we didn't offend anyone.

This author obviousily does not know squat about police work.

As a civilian, the author cannot imagine the amount of information that was coming in and all that had to be evaluated during this type of crime/terror spree.

The fact that the blue caprice got thru so many roadblocks is a travesty. Somebody down the line was not doing proper 100%searches of vehicles. The individual(s) who were responsible for setting up the roadblocks and not conducting full 100% vehicle searches ought to face consequences.

Their ineptness lead to the prolongation of the terror spree.

I heard Limbaugh and Hannity criticize Chief Moose, I disagree with them. Again they cannot imagine the volume of information coming in, and the difficult job of disseminating it, and co-ordinating multi-agency task forces.

Could Moose have done better, sure. IMO as an individual with 26 years experience in law enforcement at the county and federal levels,He did a tough job very well.

I appreciate your links.

No problem, I should've provided them up front.

I agree that the police couldn't be expected to link the AL murder or Tacoma murder with these snipers. Where I fault the police is:

1. Allowing the same vehicle to get through multiple roadblocks and never making a connection - something that could be done even in MS Access.

2. Refusing to release a description of the suspects in order to prevent witnesses from having "tunnel vision" (an understandable position); BUT, doing the exact opposite with regard to the white van or box truck.

If the police had released nearly all the info, the public would have quickly latched onto the NOI 5%'er thang thus the likely skin color and Jamaican origin of the perps. That would have increased the likelyhood that a traffic stop, motel clerk or gas station attedant would have seen something.

My most Major complaint with Moose and Friends is that they weren't slack to have that big post-capture media event. That was Political Theater not Police Work. In poker, we call that kind of thing a "tell".

"By who's accounts."
Thats all been reported as fact many times in the media.

It's a good thing that someone leaked the plate number so that hero Truck Driver could catch these Muslim scum. This case stinks of PC.

So today, we are believing the media with their unnamed sources.

This is all because there is only one profile that may be spoken of on TV--the white male.

Imagine the damage a smart sniper could do.

He wouldn't go around randomly killing people.

Something that struck me hasn’t been mentioned, though maybe I’ve misunderstood the facts. I heard that the stolen credit card was used for several purchases in the Washington area. It’s amazing that the use of a credit card stolen in commission of a murder doesn’t set off an alarm. Unrelated to the sniper incident, they should have been looking for these guys as soon as that card was used.

I had heard they were recording the license plates of those who went through the roadblocks. Five times didn't ring a bell? What were they doing with the numbers? Information is great, but clearly it wasn't properly used.

Early in the investigation following the shooting of the 13 year old student, the Tarot Card and a note were found left behind by the murderers/extortionists. We were told about the Tarot card but not the note.

I recently saw samples of the handwriting and the sentence structure from the several written communications that Moose had in his possession during the investigation.

Having taught for three years in two Detroit inner-city all-black schools, and having read essays and homework assignments ad infinitum from my "students", I can tell you that it is EASY to recognize the street language of blacks, or as some refer to it, Eubonics.

Any FBI, ATF, or cop working on this case who had access to those notes should have immediately seen that the suspects they SHOULD have been seeking were black.

In my opinion, several additional victims died needlessly because politically-correct, anti-profiling, BLACK Chief Moose refused to divulge the fact that BLACKS had obviously written the letters.

Moose is the poster-boy for affirmative action. People are inclined to let it slide because, "after all, he's a cop, and who cares. It's not like he's in a vital position!"

Just wait until you're involved in that head-on collison and suffer serious head trauma. They take you directly to the OR where Chief of Surgery Moose is preparing to open your cranium. Good luck!

I do believe that unless the snipers had given police all of those clues they would still be at large and some of the blame for that needs to go to this idea of looking only for a "white loner" and a white van. I do give law enforcement credit that once they had the clues supplied by the snipers themselves, they did catch the guys pretty quick (with assists from the public and even the media) but they had little to nothing to go on without the snipers "help" and were going totally in the wrong direction for most of the investigation, thanks to a politically correct "white loner" theory and an incorrect vehicle lookout. The Chevy Caprice lookout (originally burgandy, not blue) was given at the D.C. shooting, but was, for whatever reasons, quickly discounted by police.

More than 21, I believe -- 19 hijackers, shoe bomber, (does "dirty-nuke Padilla" count?), these two snipers, Moussaoui (sp?), (Johnnie Jihad Walker? or does he get lumped in with the foreign terrorists), those are the ones that come to mind quickly.

Moose's team caught them.

Not so. They were caught by citizens, not the police. In fact they were caught despite the efforts of the police to keep from the citizenry, the info that would allow the citizenry to catch these black Islamic murderers. From Newsweek:

The investigators did not release the description of the blue 1990 Chevy Caprice or its New Jersey license-plate number, NDA21Z. But reporters with police scanners had already heard the identifying information being relayed to patrol officers in their cruisers.

The FBI should have caught these guys long before Bulwinkle. If you saw 60 minutes last night, you saw another example of why the FBI has become another bloated, relatively ineffective government agency, filled with people who care far more about catching a promotion than catching a criminal. If you don't overhaul an engine periodically it will break down. So much of our government needs overhauling because its broken.
