It's about a two hour drive from Tacoma to the Oregon border. Why would this Islamic terrorist join the Oregon National Guard instead of the Washington one?

There is probably no links here, but this is interesting.
How come we hadn't heard about the Oregon link with the Nation of Islam Sniper, John Muhammed?
Don't you have to be a resident of a state before you can be a member of its national guard?
To: ex-Texan
"He did not receive any special training and was honorably discharged as a sergeant in April 1995"What? They changed it? I thought he got out either Admin or "Other-Than-Honorable".
To: ex-Texan
I don't think that Muhammed ever served in the Oregon Guard. He did, however, serve in the Louisiana Guard prior to his regular army service.

I wonder if Muhammed picked Montgomery County because he knew Moose was the Police Chief?

Oregonians have no idea of what's happening in their state. What happens when they vote free medical to all? Please pass this. This can be the greatest show of shows on how fast you can take a state to total BK.

Oregon is bankrupt now. If the mediots in that state were on top of it, they would be pointing out the pension problem and other economic realities.
One of my sons is a lost conservative in Portland, he can't believe his friends who are all for the free health insurance scam when the state has teetered over the edge of bankruptcy the last year.

This is scary:
Muhammad trained as a combat engineer at the 141st Support Battalion at PDX, studying water treatment. Just what you want. An Islamakazi from the Nation of Islam studying water treatment. Hell he could kill entire cities with that knowledge.
To: Grampa Dave
Why am I not surprised? In almost every case we've trained these people.

It was posted on another thread that he was thrown out of the military because he threw a live grenade into a tent containing fellow soldiers. Don't think they award "honorable" discharges for that kind of activity.

"studying water treatment"....I thought that was really "He drove a water truck"?

Majors don't talk to staff sergants.

He officially changed his name from John Williams to John Muhammad in April 2001.
Notice although John Williams Mohammad practiced his muslim religion for some years, he did not change his name until last year when he was suppose to be out of the country in Antiqua.

It's about a two hour drive from Tacoma to the Oregon border Why would this Islamic terrorist join the Oregon National Guard instead of the Washington one? Ar you sure it's only two hours? Seemed longer than that one Christmans time when I found myslef in SeaTac due to Portland being fogged in, of course that was on a Bus with poorly functioning heaters and in the middle of the ngiht.
Possibly because of openning available in the one, but not the other. It's not always easy to get a guard slot, they may not have the training $ and/or slots to train someone into a new career field and may not have an opening in the person's previous field. This is especially true with someone with more than a single active duty enlistment, or no enlistment at all, IOW, an experienced person with some "rank".
Or maybe he didn't live in Washington state at that time? Joining a Guard unit not in one's state of residence isn't unheard of. I did it myself, after grad school and a stint in the Reserve, which in turn was after my active duty service.
