And what's the story on his new last name - is he a Muslim convert like attempted shoebomber Richard Reid? Muslim converts, like converts to any religion, can often be a hell of a lot more zealous (and annoying) than those born into a particular faith. And if this is the guy, and there is a Muslim motivation, will the authorities attempt to play it down, like they did with the guy who shot up the El Al counter at LAX on the 4th of July?

This guy should be called "Johnny Al Qaeda" to go with Johnny Taliban

He might have just been arrested, along with Malvo, at a rest stop on I-70. They were sleeping in a car.
The police wouldn't ID the two men arrested, but it sounds like it was them.
Good news, eh?

Jessee Jackson, Al Sharpton and Johnnie-on-the-Spot call your office: the media is already using terms like "search warrant" and referring to the suspects as "Mr."
To: Nick Thimmesch
We need to understand their rage at the unjust society that caused all of this...

According to Mr. Moose,
He described Muhammad, 41, as "armed and dangerous" and said he was wanted on a federal firearms charge. But Moose added "a strong word of caution: Do not assume from this allegation that John Allen Muhammad . . . is involved in any of the shootings we are investigating."This is an interesting development.. but I have to go to work...
Ghost over and out.

Just covering his rear end, GhostofWCooper.

"...Do you mean the terrorist sniper from the Islam Cult named?..." Yeah, that one...
You know, the one some of our lack-wit posters here at FR were describing as a "white male, between the ages of 21 and 35".
He don't be lookin' any too much like uh white boy to me...

Two men arrested in connection with sniper case, police say (Had Anti-American Sentiments) "...Several federal sources told the Seattle Times that Muhammad and Malvo may have been motivated by anti-American sentiments in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks. Both were known to speak sympathetically about the men who hijacked jetliners over Washington, New York and Pennsylvania, the sources said.
But neither man was believed to be associated with the al-Qaida terrorist network, sources said."
(some consolation, eh?)

will the authorities attempt to play it down I take it this is a rhetorical question. PMSNBC has stated that there is "no information" regarding the shooters' motivation.
Some people, such as myself, suggest the fact that he changed his name to Muhammed might be a clue.

Both were known to speak sympathetically about the men who hijacked jetliners over Washington, New York and Pennsylvania, the sources said. So what they're saying then is that these are a couple of white, NRA members? Where's Katie and Matt when I need them to think for me?

Folks need to get real. This is a crime spree on the part of two angry black Jamaican guys. His last name is something he used as cover and alias. He's a homegrown nutcase who co-opted his punk stepson. This guy doesn't even practice his 'faith.'
The thing that will upset some Freepers is that this case doesn't fit the 'profile' they had in mind - whether that be angry white male OR Al Queda. Sorry, just a couple of whack-jobs.

It still remains to be seen whether he was connected with Al Qaeda. I don't think Al Qaeda is going to have their sleeper agents pass some sort of religious litmus test to commit acts of terror (notice that the 9-11 terrorists had strippers perform lap dances for them shortly before the hijacking). Plus I'm still interested in that Campground Zero aspect of this case.

Muslim converts, like converts to any religion, can often be a hell of a lot more zealous (and annoying) than those born into a particular faith. HL Mencken once said the only thing worse than a missionary is a convert. I don't know that it's true, but it's a funny line.

The "mainstream" media is already trying to disassociate this from Islam. See the LA Times bulletin exerpted at another post. I don't think it will fly, though. One of the drawbacks for the Left in having dumb-downed the great unwashed masses is that most of them will pick up only that the guy's last name is MUHAMMAD.

But neither man was believed to be associated with the al-Qaida terrorist network, sources said." Odd that I wasn't surprised when Washington State popped up on TV last night. Before the story of the French deserter ran, I assumed the snipers were the two guys who weren't arrested in Washington. I will be surprised if they aren't connected.
