Let's keep a live commentary thread going again today. The FBI Tip Line #1-888-324-9800.
All seems quiet since yesterday's news the shooter may target children specifically. It was released on various news outlets the shooter's 3-page letter to police was in broken English and threatened extreme violence. Police announced an electronic transfer of $10m as requested by the shooter was not possible but other options for transfer remain open. No one seriously believes police will actually give the shooter $$, but police are trying to keep a dialogue open with the shooter in an effort to capture this monster.

"Why do you think "they" would withold this information? What possible motive could there be?" Who is "they"? The political establishment; the administration; controlling leadership in Congress; and local elected and administrative authorities.
Why would they withhold information? Because they are commited to the policy goal of immigration--get more minorities and other immigrants into the United States; immigration quotas are not high enough--so they want lots of new people, legal or not; liberals benefit from new arrivals because they represent groups to whom liberals can exchange promises of benefits for votes. At the moment, the Bush Administration is signed on to this set of goals--in part because the emerging world order seeks to break down national boundaries in all countries by this process.
How does concealing the foreign terrorist particiaption further these goals? The clean clear logical response to domestic attacks of this character is to round up all illegals and deport them; followed by recertifing all visas and residence permits with fingerprints and contact data so that we can control all aliens within the borders; to the end of getting control over the borders of our country--either we have a country or we don't. If we get control over the borders, we make the enemy stop domestic attacks.
Having said all that, will it work? Maybe not. An effort will be made to convince the electorate that it is a domestic however there is so much focus on these events that probably the real perp is going to be disclosed (unlike Oklahoma City; TWA 800 and other events with a similiar direction).

There was guy on TV the other day that has started a reward fund and plans to split the money up between the victims families if the sniper is caught by police (like caught in the act) and not turned in by a tipster. I have not heard anymore about it, but it was for real.

Oh, good. Paris Glendenning on now saying that the Maryland National Guard may be called in to guard voters on elections day.
Let's think about this for a moment.
No, I would rather not. It is too stupid a comment.

I'm confused. Do we have 2 FReepers with sisters in LE in that area?
To: BaghdadBarney
Not really, Rt 40 goes right through the county I live in PA. WV, MD and VA plates are very common around here, especially this time of year with the leaves turning.

You're getting farther and farther out there on that limb. Someone will saw it off eventually. Try setting aside your agenda, and look at the RELEVANT information already known about this killer.
To: yukong
The objective is (from what we know now) money, and/or just jerking people around/terror. Two problems with this theory. 1st and foremost, if it is a domestic whack-job, it's a new and disturbing manifestation of a serial killer. The FBI will have to re-write their profiling manuals to incorporate this loon.
2nd, even if it is a loon, any terrorist group is certainly taking notes. As a previous poster mentioned, since central cities have now embraced PC hiring policies, there is now an inherent weakness in the ability to protect citizens from well thought out and planned attacks of this nature.

What are your thoughts on this statement that Moose made last night when letting the sniper know that the 1-800 number was ready...
"You indicated that this is about more than violence. We are waiting to hear from you."
I have not kept up on all the comments on the snipers' threads. But, does anyone wonder if the sniper could be a cop or someone in law enforcement? Just cannot figure how he can get away from the scene so quickly, so wondered if maybe he doesn't.

I agree -- armed, cell-phoned and walkie-talkied guards on roving patrols to every school, school bus route, day-care, college and polling place. But keep them all open!

He could fire a shot at a gas pump at a busy gas station rather than a single human being and create the need for 20 body bags maybe? Or maybe I've been wating too many movies...
To: alisasny
Perhaps there is some danger, which could be alleviated by letting people wait inside the polling place.
I just thought it odd that he wasn't concerned about calling up the Guard to patrol school grounds and shopping areas, nor to do searches, but rather to patrol the election.
More democrats are afraid than Republicans, apparently. They probably did a poll on that, and have decided that they need the Guard so that the Rats will show up.

With logic like that, I could build an equally credible case
that my dog did it....

Coming in to work this morning, I heard a reporter on WMAL say that the Ashland letter speaks of "we". Suggests more than one person.

Nah, I believe, and have from early on, that those two poor dumb saps just were victims of really bad luck My feelings exactly. These guys are probably day laborers (Painting, yard work). They get called and told meet me at so and so school and I will take you to the house.
Person hiring them is late, at same time mom not knowing school is closed shows up sees two hispanics in white van.
Guy one says, stay here, I'll go call and see what the hold up is -- in the meantime mom calls LE.
Guy shows up at phone in white van, and the rest is history.

Here in So Florida, Democrat rumor has it that the sniper has been hired by Republicans to scare people into staying indoors on election day. They're buying this story, too.
To: aristeides
Who is this moron on FNC now - he's slamming Moose, and says we should pay off the sniper.

I pay little attention to the Rat faction. They live in an alternate universe.
