[history]
A 9-year-old boy who was practicing with his youth football team was shot in the hip this evening by someone who fired from a wooded area at McKinley Park in Beltzhoover.
Officials said the boy sustained an abrasion wound to his left hip. He was taken to Children's Hospital in Oakland, where he was in fair condition, said hospital spokesman Dean Walters.

'Fair' is the upper limit of such designations. If you are
better than fair, you are released.

My guess is that they ought to find something for ballistics, though I don't know what kind of shape the bullet might be in. The kid probably knows where he was on the field, so that should have narrowed down the search for the bullet or fragment considerably.
Poor kid (lucky kid, really), I wonder if he will forever be afraid of football fields now?
I wonder if this was the only incident last night, or if there are others we don't know about in other states?

Sounds to me like some kid with a .22 trying to get even with the jock who stole his girl. 9 years old is a bit young to steal a girlfriend

Yes, there was a sniper who shot at a car on I71 from a field in Morrow County last week, and no one was hurt. As far as I know they are still investigating, and there's no connection.
It was within 20 miles of our home.

According to the news, they're still looking for the perp. They refuse to rule out a sniper, but are sticking to the line that it's probably just kids shooting targets in the woods. I hope this doesn't go the way of the other "nothing to see here" stories....

It doesn't look like this is related to the Beltway shootings.
I wonder where the maniac sniper is today?

Hunting is very big among school kids and teachers in some areas of PA; some school districts have as much as three vacation days on the calendar for various seasons.
I saw a reporter on TV interviewing people at the scene. One guy said that it isn't surprising to hear shots coming from that wooded area. I'd bet that it turns out to be an accident rather (assuming that it is solved at all -- a poor bet at this point) than another sniper.

Pray for these kids..........
