THE DC AREA SNIPER COULD BE AN EXAMPLE OF UNRESTRICTED WARFARE
etherzone.com ^ | October 29, 2002 | Joe Sansone

As the DC area Sniper attacks continue, fear and hysteria spread, the media frenzy increases, and authorities are in the dark about the culprits; the movement toward war with Iraq moves forward methodically and seemingly undaunted. Yet, should it?

Granted, and to the delight of the anti-gun fringe, it is still possible that the Sniper attacks could be the work of a lone serial killer, the possibility of foreign terrorists engaging in Unrestricted Warfare on American soil should frighten those that understand the dark scenario that presents.

Simply put, Unrestricted Warfare is formless warfare. It only materializes into formation, or presents itself, when it strikes. In more practical terms, it is the blending of military and civilian forces. Unrestricted Warfare is new kind of Gorilla Warfare that does not distinguish between military and civilian targets. Unrestricted Warfare is what Chinese military strategists Qiao Liang and Wang Xiangsui described in the 1999 Chinese People’s Liberation Army text as the warfare of the 21st century. It is Sun Tzu’s "The Art Of War" reborn into an even more ruthless version for the third millennium.

To them, September 11th 2001 signaled the decline of the United States as a super power. Unrestricted Warfare is the equalization of military forces through tactics rather than simply technology. The U.S. is trapped in an outdated mode of military strategy, bound by conventional tactics, ideas, and philosophy.

Again, the DC Sniper may be a serial killer, but for the moment, assume that it is not a serial killer. If it were foreign terrorists, theoretically, any nation or organization could be behind it. It could be an Al Quaeda terrorist cell hoping to make U.S. support of Israel waver. It could plausibly be Israeli terrorists trying to black mail the U.S. government into following through with its threats of war toward Iraq. Maybe even Chinese terrorists trying to disrupt the U.S. economy to gain a competitive advantage. What if the Sniper attacks are simply a diversion as a large-scale attack is being prepared using weapons of mass destruction?

Imagine if terrorist cells carried out such Sniper attacks on ten major metropolitan areas at once. Chaos would follow much like the Anthrax attacks that followed the September 11th bombings. Interesting how those Anthrax attacks just suddenly stopped. No mention of the cause or the cure. Was the U.S. government black mailed by the Anthrax attacks? Or were the Anthrax attacks just test marketing? Imagine a multi city future series of attacks that involved both Sniper attacks and Anthrax attacks. It is possible that a foreign power could have been responsible for the Anthrax and Sniper attacks and is simply planning for a massive nationwide future attack utilizing multiple terrorist attacks that will predicate a conventional attack on the United States.

As the United States is about to wage war with Iraq using a conventional force, it is even possible that Iraq is beginning a series of offensive Sniper attacks across the nation that will cripple the U.S., using nothing but man power to achieve its objective.

This is Unrestricted Warfare. Uncertainty, doubt, and chaos are the result. Even allies could be responsible for such attacks since the perpetrators of the attacks are not revealed.

So how do you fight shadow?

The counter to Unrestricted Warfare is Unrestrained Warfare, absolute, complete and total warfare, the elimination of half measures. Military application is no longer a tool to achieve political or economic objectives. It becomes the ground of life and death. The use of military force is to achieve total destruction of the enemy. Full commitment and holding nothing back.

True, Sun Tzu said, "To win without fighting is best." Such a philosophy would dictate a foreign policy designed to minimize enemies. While foreign policy can be redesigned, much of the damage has already been done. So there is more that must be done besides just changing foreign policy.

It was Sun Tzu who said, "Invincibility is a matter of defense." Therefore, the first step to becoming invincible is militarizing the U.S. borders. To some this seems extreme, but to truly counter Unrestricted Warfare with Unrestrained Warfare, halfway border control measures don’t make the grade.

The methods of Unrestricted Warfare necessitate an infiltration of the host nation much like a parasite. Working from within, the terrorist cells inflict their damage. The only effective method of preventing terrorism on U.S. soil is to prevent the entrance of the terrorists.

There are 11 million illegal aliens in the U.S., so long as that remains the case, terrorism will remain. The most important element to a war on terrorism outside of preventing more potential terrorists from entering the U.S., is tracking down, detaining, and deporting these intruders.

It should be pointed out as a reminder that is was illegal aliens that blew up the World Trade Center.

The U.S. must become a citadel of liberty, a Fortress America. It is only through an integrated and impenetrable defense that weapons of mass destruction can be prevented. That means that border control is just as important as a missile defense system.

Regardless of who is responsible for the Anthrax attacks, there is one thing that they have made clear, the U.S. may be about to launch a massive offensive invasion of Iraq, yet still is vulnerable in the area of national defense.

It looks like a charging bull with a glass jaw.

Guerrillas attack on plain of jars

For some reason I remember that clearly too.

Call it guerilla, gorilla, chimpanzee or orangutan warfare. The writer is correct in spotting the trend to unrestricted warfare. Tim McVeigh showed how a small group of people with limited resources can leverage a little knowledge of explosives for maximum damage. Al Qaeda came along and leveraged our own technology against us. This sniper certainly isn't waging a high-tech or expensive campaign. Mean while we've got thousands of cops working overtime and who knows what classified, pricey military gear at work. Laws of economics and efficiency are at work. Our Cold War military bureaucracy is ill-equipped for any of it. The US Army was unintentionally and ironically accurate in its revised recruitment marketing. Eventually each of us will have to be an "Army of One".

Very interesting theory put forth here, and I am afraid a little too plausible. This kind of warfare is most certainly the kind practiced in third world countries, and I am afraid it may have come to our shores, and this is only the beginning.

THe reaction to this post by so many assumed to be Conservative realists, indicates that the enemies battle plan to have us laugh our selves to death as we are destroyed, is working better than they ever expected in their wildest dreams.

Have any of you commedians ever stopped to think about how life across America would be paralized by a few elusive sharp shooters in and around every major city in America? Don't look now but your stupidity is showing. I speak to the idiots who have responded to this post, Joe, not to you-I thank you for posting it.

Look, you keep coming up with the idea that these attacks on me are "tests". First it was the Pentagon, down the street from my office, then the anthrax (and there was only one attack - not a series), and now there's the sniper wondering around!

All seems pretty real from here! I fail tosee the testing part.

Unrestricted Warfare is new kind of Gorilla Warfare

I stopped reading at this point. The inability to spell the central term correctly shows grotesque ignorance of the subject.

Freedom of speech doesn't mean every idiot's opinion is valid.

The author mercifully left out the part about how not too much assymetrical warfare is needed to bring down a society as free as ours with as much populace concentrated in the big metro areas ... chaos brings hunger brings anarchy brings mayhem brings a democratic society to its knees, unable to project its vast miliatry might beyond its own riot-riddled shores.

The antidote, by thew way, is a well armed, organized, patrolling citizenry, involved in the peacekeeping of neighborhoods.

To hell with the author - what about the editor, and all of the other people who had to read/type it before it was uploaded?!

My thoughts exactly. It took me ten minutes to get my giggles under control, so I could read the rest of the article. :)

To wage unrestricted war against the US a group like AQ could attack the two largest buildings in the country; issue a massive DOS attack; send Anthrax through the mail; and have a sniper create havoc in a metropolitan area.

What is past is prologue. I've a feeling that the sniper, this week's DOS attack, and last year's anthrax scare were mere probes designed to test how vulnerable we are to this type of warfare.

The Chinese are taking notes....
