If this is the work of Al Qaeda or Muslim terrorists, I think the sniper shootings may be a diversionary tactic. Draw all the local and federal authorities to concentrate on the sniper shootings, while the other terrorists are preparing for the "big event."

This shooting could also be a test run for the Christmas shopping season with teams in a dozen or more cities ready to go. Unfortunately we are failing the test so far.

It's the mind game that counts. This guy is going to keep killing anyway, throw him off, make him mad, make him make a mistake. Get it over with, and make it very unattractive for someone to try and repeat it.

I agree with this. I think he feeels outside society and has a "me against the world" mentality. He has marginalized, demonized and dehumanized other human beings. They are not fully human; only he is. This is a first step along the path that leads eventually to the random shootings. Perfectly innocent strangers are seen as animals or things, so exterminating them is meaningless. My two cents.

There is a lot of macho talk and patriotic gun toating bravado being vented. This will not protect our families. Nor will everyone slinging a rifle in every vehicle, store, and street corner when everyone and nobody is a suspect at the same time.

How many of our loved ones are going to die 50 or 100 or more before we stop counting on luck to catch this person or this group? Will enough die before the D.C. area is under martial law and or curfew? Should the crime area be federalized with national guard staged in areas to quarantine the possible area of the next shooting and than search house to house? Not at this time but what if 2 months from now we are still being killed?

As a start there should be several thousand (FBI, CIA, NSA, US Marshall, local LEO, DOD snipers, etc...) staked out in or near every possible wooded or suspect shooting area right now as a minimum. It will not be luck but skill in locating the placement of the next shot and directing forces to the shooting area.

If a shooting occured in my area I would be the first out there with my rifle looking for the SOB and than would be the first person picked up by law enforcement so you know this would not work. However, I would have my Redhawk .44 mag and my Colt 1911 concealed and I would run directly at the most likely area the shot came from and sacrafice myself if need be to locate the shooter either concealed or attempting to egress the area. I would suspect anyone and everyone and look as rapidly as possible. I believe a brave citizen with a cell phone is going to be the hero that spots this bastard instead of hiding for cover after the next shot. Lets roll and pray that it does not take #20 before a brave soul out there spots the shooter and pursues the killer under fire.

From your perspective, you are correct. My point is even more valid when viewed through the media. Right-wing is applied to leaders in communist countries if their actions displease the american left. It is a one size fits all kind of concept.

If the killer/killers are home grown, they had a lot of teachers who just might recognize the hand writting.

An old cop trick when they got a hand written note from some whacko was to get that note to the teachers and retired teachers in the area. Often it worked. The teachers were not identified to protect them. Once the bad guys were identified, the rest of the cop work was easy.

This is utter PC Bravo Sierra that nothing has been released. All we really know is that x amount of people have been killed and x wounded.

Redact some of the info to weed out the professional confessors and get this stuff on tv and in the newspapers. Even if it drives the killer/killers underground, they are killing anyone. Also, just one person may say, I know who that A$$hole is.

I feel like I am in that movie Ground Hog day with the lack of news except the body count.
