"Most Americans have no idea of what fear is. During the French and Indian wars one of the three New Englanders were killed. With the militia style Armies of the Civil War, entire male population of towns and villages would be killed off in a few hours of battle. Most modern people don’t know how to fix their cars, build their houses, farm, fish or mine. Our military is professional volunteers, mostly from rural, conservative, gun owning cultures with a vestige of masculine virtues. 95% of suitable males do not and will not take up arms to defend their country or its values. "I thank God every day that I live in a free state (Pennsylvania) where citizens (NOT sublects) have the right to carry a weapon for self defense. To all the Americans on this forum that feel afraid: stop your whining. To you non-Americans: we neither need nor want you here. And, yet you wonder why the gun crime rate in Britain is sky rocketing."

My posting:

I am amazed at how many people here think that gun ownership or the supposed easy access to guns in America has anything to do with these crimes. I am willing to bet that the people who are blaming the guns and who think that it is easy to get a gun have never actually bought a gun (and getting to shoot one at a range is not the same thing as taking one home with you). It is incredibly difficult to get a handgun or high powered rifle in our land; in fact it is easier to get guns in other countries, some more violent (eg. Israel) than ours and some less violent than ours (eg. Switzerland). Worldwide data show that there is no correlation between gun posession and violence. It's other factors that influence the crime rate, and all this gun blaming only makes it worse by distracting us from the real issues.
