ARM THE PEOPLE - NOW!
Give me Liberty or Give me Death Web Site ^ | October 22, 2002 | Jeff Head

Posted on 10/22/2002 7:58:47 AM PDT by Jeff Head

Arm the people. That is the answer, not only for the current environment, but for crime in general. The founders of this great Republic knew this, and they enumerated it in clear language in our constitution.

Use surplus M-14's or M-1's for long guns and .45's or 9mm's for sidearms and issue comm gear to all particpants Have the local sheriff's review those who volunteer and insure they are U.S. Citizens, have no violent criminal background, and are males between the ages of 18 and 50.

Deputize them.

Give them a three to five day crash course in rifle shooting and communications put on by volunteer former NCO's. Marine or Special Forces. Make update teraining mandatory every six months.

Have the Sheriff set up sentries (two to a location), perimeter patrols close to suspected targets (inner and outer ring) and close to local infrastructure to be protected from terrorists and also set up roving patrols in the community.

Have the comm procedure be to the local Sheriff who works with local FLEO's, from there to the National Guard at the state level for the Sheriff and to regional command for the FLEO's, and from there to Homeland Security at the National level who simply coordinates and calls in Federal forces if necessary.

Make the program voluntary but let those who complete training and six months of duty (that duty consisting of 4 six hour shifts per week) keep their firearm and comm gear.

Institute immediately - nation wide.

For individual defense, I want a very loose concealed carry policy. It's generally one's own lookout.

For a paramilitary force with the imprimatur of the goobermint, I want VERY tight training requirements. Some LEOs are already grossly undertrained in critical areas, such as Constitutional rights--do we want to LOWER the overall training level out there, and invite more trouble? Don't we complain enough as it is about goobermint agents going "beyond the beyonds" and violating our rights as they do so?

"we are talking about people running around with loaded weapons, and people getting killed."

You mean like all those CCW permit holders out there that are currently out running around shooting absolutely no one?

You are more likely to slip and kill yourself in your bathtub.

Im ready Jeff, but, will have to extend the age limit up a bit. How about 55 yoa? Then I would qualify. Wont need state or feds weapons though. Sign up vets and retired leos first. Would be a tremendous force. Stay safe!

As part of the Oslo Agreement, Israel armed 50,000 "police officers"...

And guess who trained their *police snipers....*

Funny, Jeff's idea sounds more like "Neighborhood Watch" than a mercenary army. Considering a lot of those who are currently nashing their teeth over the abuses against the Constitution would be among those who would volunteer, I'd say your fears of violations in that area are pretty darn small as well.

Agreed. Vets and former LEO's as the vanguard and then as leads in the teams ... but open to all because in the end, numbers and eu]yes on the ground will count.

If they want to serve, American Moslems should be deputized. American Moslems are American citizens, and thus are members of the militia.

As part of the Oslo agreement, Israel armed 50,000 Palestinian "police officers". The idea was that the Palestinians would use their own police force to stop Islamist terrorists. Unfortunately, poor little naive Israel didn't realize that the Palestinian Authority ARE the terrorists..."

You're confusing a forced agreement through international treaty with a sovereign nation making a decision.

Palestinians are not Israeli citizens.

There is no way that Israel would have armed foreign troops inside it's borders without pressure from the United States government.

Yes, Israel knows that the Palestinians are terrorists. Israel knows that the United States supports the Palestinian terrorists, too.

Blackmail has always been a very effective tool for influencing Israeli policies.

Obviously ... we disagree.

Arming the people is the principle thing. Having those armed civilians work with local Sheriff's has already proven its worth countless times in this Republic. It can ... indeed IMHO, it should ... again.

If you have a link to the story, I would like to read about it

That was the case of the FBI agent ordered by FBI Director Mueller not to testify to congress about the FBI failure that might have resulted in the arrest of the 09/11 hijacking ring, but for the Moslem agent who refused to record conversations with his fellow Moslems.

Funny, Jeff's idea sounds more like "Neighborhood Watch" than a mercenary army.

Gosh, you shoulda seen the caterwauling the LAST time somebody proposed something that more closely resembled Neighborhood Watch (TIPS). This is having armed persons, acting both under color of authority and with minimal training. Yup, GREAT idea.

Considering a lot of those who are currently nashing their teeth over the abuses against the Constitution would be among those who would volunteer, I'd say your fears of violations in that area are pretty darn small as well.

Actually, given some of the attitudes expressed on FR when now-deceased Freeper matsuidon blew his gasket in Massilon, OH this past summer, I'd say there's PLENTY to worry about. There's (a) what the Constitution actually says, and then there's (b) what somebody THINKS it says, and a for a lot of potential volunteers, there is a significant delta betwixt the two.

But Jeff your idea makes too much sense and the government is full of petty tyrants, statists etc., who would never arm any citizen under any circumstances. The idea of self reliance has been PC'd out of existence.

Gun sales sky-rocketed.
excellent story and gun sales will soar again, it just should not take a sniper to do it most people should be big enough to get one or two anyways, I mean why does it always take a shooting or 911 type of thing to get people to stock up on guns. It should be a law everyone owns a gun.

"How do you know the sniper does not have a carry permit?"

I do not know that the sniper does not have a carry permit -- I am going with the stats on people who have them -- something like .01% of all those who have been issued carry permits have committed a crime. The odds are that the mutt has not been issued a carry permit.

The odds are he is not even a US citizen.

"How do you target someone with no description?"

I don't.

But if, perchance, I do see the shooter, and I am able to return fire without endangering anyone else, I damn sure want to be able to. It is far better, IMHO, to have a weapon and not have a need to use it than to have a need to use a weapon and not having it!

You would rather be disarmed than allow a religious group to be armed?

Did you also support the government's murder of those "dangerous" cultists at Waco?

Of course you don't turn your back on someone you're not sure of, but that doesn't mean that you disarm them because they might not be trustworthy.

That has as much logic as President Bush's reasoning that we should attack Iraq because "we can assume" that they "might" do something against us.
