I agree; maybe muslim or jihad related though, but this person is striking familiar places to them; bus stop, stores, gas stations. I am surprised they have not caught them, but then not sure who is 'leading' the search.

"...government handout program ..."?How is giving surplus weapons back to the taxpayers who paid for them in the first place a "government handout program"?

Well stated. I wrote of the same type of thing for Homeland Security in my
1st novel in the series in October of 2001, soon after the 911 carnage. In that novel it was started in Idaho and called the "Home Guard".
It's been self published and selling on Amazon for over a year now. Volume II further explores (amongst other things) its complete applicabability.
A number of us have been screaming about this for a long time. Most pols don't want to face up to their duty ... they are more interested in their so called political careers. We need statemen who will put the Constitution and their duty to this Republic first.
best fregards.

Consider an FAL for a long-gun for defense, a .308 Savage tactical or 7mm mag long-gun for hunting and other long range work and a 9mm or .45 for a sidearm. I shoot a .44 mag.
Good luck and have fun. Get out on the range often.

Sounds like it's breaking news to me.

all Americans should have Guns! In fact it should be a law that every household must have one and that the whole family knows how to use it.

Hey! Why cut off at age 50?
I'm about that age, and probably a lot healthier than a lot of the lard-a** 20-year-olds I see wandering around.

A panicky overreaction to a death rate lower than that "caused" by SUVs.
The chances of being killed are almost 1,000,000 to 1. But administrators want to close schools and you want to turn this into a police state. Freaking wonderful!

hello....
Giving the people responsibility and arms - (you know - restoring the constitution) is NOT creating a police state...
To: DuncanWaring
A fiscally responsible approach is to SELL them to private citizens at whatever price the market will bear. Six months of part-time standing around isn't
I daresay that most of the "taxpayers who paid for them" who would receive these weapons have already received more in various public subsidies than they have ever paid in taxes...or do you really think that $6,000,000,000,000 national debt is just a bookkeeping error?
What I can guarantee you is that the vast majority of citizens out there would freeze under fire, even after getting a few hours of "teraining" from Marines and Special Forces NCOs (who Mr. Head believes, I presume, aren't doing anything important--like, oh, fighting a war, for example).

We've had the discussion on the water Poohbah ... you're wrong aout Klamath and always will be as long as you maintain your attitude. The farmes paid the construction costs off and are still paying today, 100 years later. Nothing hand-out about that.
Notice that this program is a volunteer work program. They have to put in 4 six hour shifts per week for six months before they own the weapons. I don't see that as a hand out ... let's see, that's 24 hours week in addition to their normal job. Times four weeks per month times six months. You do the math.
... don't volunteer.

Good Idea Jeff, but include us old Vets over 50.
To: Jeff Head
Why propose this to your PD? You can do it yourself. Training is available, widely available. In one week you will be better trained than %90 of law enforcement. Forget the surplus rifles, buy a good Ruger or Remington or Bushmaster AR. For about $2000, you can be armed & trained in both shooting skills and legal issues & laws to a expert standard. Check out Thunder Ranch, Guncite, Ayoob.com, Blackwater.

>>>We are at war with a bunch of people, supported by some governments, who want nothing more than to kill as many of us as possible, disrupt our economy, end our influence in the world and bring down this Republic. Sadly, they are abetted by some within our own government and more within our own borders. It has been going on in low gear for a long time, it has heated up in the last few years and boiled over on 911.Well said, Mister Head. America has been under serious attack by subversives, terrorists and criminal elements since the 1960`s!
However, its not panic time yet. Deputizing and arming citizens like it was the old west, won't solve some very deep rooted problems we face in America today. But it may come to that in the end. Let's have some faith in US law enforcement and our military capabilities. Personally, I will remain vigilant, ready for anything and properly armed.

You are not paying attention elfie.
The reason the schools were closed is because in the communications with the sniper with the police he threatened to kill school children if his demands were not met.
Now you should rethink your statement dear.
Of course they would close schools.
Too bad your site banned you.
To: elfman2
Don't close the schools.
Sheriff's deputizing local citizens is not a police state. Arming local citizens is the anti-thesis of a police state. Get a grip.
