Further to the Unisniper theory, the ecofreaks like to play God, they know better than anyone what to do about forests, etc. I am God message would fit well.
I looked up the Unibomber Manifesto and it fits right in. You can read the entire abominable thing at at
http://www.ed.brocku.ca/~rahul/Misc/unibomber.html
"4. We therefore advocate a revolution against the industrial system. This revolution may or may not make use of violence: it may be sudden or it may be a relatively gradual process spanning a few decades. We can't predict any of that. But we do outline in a very general way the measures that those who hate the industrial system should take in order to prepare the way for a revolution against that form of society. This is not to be a POLITICAL revolution. Its object will be to overthrow not governments but the economic and technological basis of the present society."

Before anyone speculates that a "voice-disguising device" implies a well-funded shooter with access to CIA/KBG-level spy tools, I'd like to point out that I learned enough in college (in signal-processing class) to be able to build several types of voice-tweakers from stuff you can buy at Radio Shack. You can also pick them up at most electronic music stores -- simple digital sound processors. I've even seen keychain versions of them.

And this just happens during the few weeks that we're are deciding to throw out Saddam. A highly trained NRA type ECOSNIPER goes nuts, OK with me.
To: John Jamieson
OK, you're right. OBL made it clear it was a personal vendetta against Dubya. I hitherunto go crawl into a hole.

Bring in 200 dogs, each with their human trainer/walker. Take each dog to the location of any or all of the shootings and have them use the scent of the person at that location. There's also the 3-page note (GUNMAN: PAY OR I'LL KILL AGAIN) that might have some scent, too. We need Sergeant Preston and his smart lead dog Yukon King!

I never said there weren't terrorists in this country. But this guy isn't one of them. Islamofacists fit a profile, and this shooter isn't falling remotely into that profile.
You know the strongest reason I don't think al Quada is behind this? Because your average Islamofacist is too f*cking stupid to plan something like this out. They're locked in to their stupid martyrdom scenarios. An al Quada sniper would pull off an attack like that sh8thead at the el Al terminal on 7/4, popping shots until someone shoots him. End of story.
Stop being so frightened of those savages. People on this forum too often think they're hiding behind every tree. There's a wreck on the highway and some ninny posts it on this forum - could be terrorism! If they hit us again, you'll know it. They'll be no question about it, like in Bali.

The pressure would be high for Moose and Cook. We might have pressure cooked Moose.(Not to uncommon here in Alaska).
To: John Jamieson
A highly trained NRA type ECOSNIPER goes nuts, If you've followed these threads, you've read time and time again that this sniper is not necessarily a great marksman. He sets up sure shots and waits for someone to walk into his sights. And do you think that because we're on Saddam's case, every other freak in the world is sitting down waiting for Iraq to be resolved before committing his own crimes?

Why? Just push the locals outta the way.
As in LEAD, FOLLOW, OR GET THE .........
To: PoisedWoman
If they're smart they will, it's going to get really nasty.
To: PoisedWoman
Exactly. What's more, a common misconception is that leftist terrorists in this country would share the anti-gun sensibilities of their effete, watered down comrades like Charlie Schumer. Au contraire - look at groups like the Black Panthers and ELF. The extreme left likes their guns just fine. I believe the Unabomber had a rifle or a shotgun in his cabin.
Another angle is that leftists tend not to believe in any kind of religion, god or afterlife, therefore, they have no desire to sacrifice themselves in the commission of their terrorism. Thus they kill at a distance, like the Unabomber and possibly this guy.
Incidentally, the only other prominent sniper/shooter attack in this country was Whitman in Austin Texas over 30 years ago . . . not really similar to this case in that he clearly wanted to die, however, for years there have been rumors here that he was motivated by some sort desire to make a statement about the Vietnam war. I don't believe his motive has ever been determined.

My 3 step program:
1. Recognize the enemy
2. Outsmarth 'em
3. Crush 'em
To: John Jamieson
He didn't say there were no terrorists in the USA. He only said this didn't fit the AQ MO. AFAIK, the terrorist training tape shows them basically doing drive-bys and killing as many people as possible in the shortest amount of time, not methodical sniping.
The idea of an anti-capitalism protest sounds interesting. But, what's the deal with Michael's? Could it be Martha Stewart, protesting against kitschy knick-knacks?
Given the use of the vocoder, Peter Frampton?
To: Southack
This is completely unacceptable. Rather than doing their jobs, the police are begging and pleading for the killer to be merciful. Pathetic. First, don't call these cops "pathetic." They know their job better than you do.
Second, they aren't simply pleading. They're using psychology, giving the killer the power he seeks -- make him feel like he has more control of the situation than he actually has. If it was the killer who called, and he does call back, that second phone call will be one more shred of evidence to triangulate with other shreds. Lots of books on the topic at any local library.
To: John Jamieson
Agreed!!! IMO first step is to require the feds at the highest levels of obstruction(tiny tom)to be fully aware of the extreme gravity of the situation. What better way than to allow him the opportunity to feel the same concern as the "common people".
BTW I like your adult grain beverage. It's my favorite!
To: BiffSchneider
My only theory about Michaels is that it's a large chain store that's fairly common out there. I'm sort of familiar with the areas he's been operating in, and I suspect that if my theory is correct - and I am by no means 100% sure of this, unlike the people who seem to know in their hearts beyond all doubt that this is al Quada - what the shooter is hitting is suburban strip malls, and it's just random that there always seems to be a Michaels in or near them.
I think it's worth pointing out that if this French soldier - possibly of Yugoslavian origin - that busts the motive wide open, anything from Moslem terror to Serb revenge. Frankly, I've been waiting for the Serbs to get back at us for years for what BJ Billy did to their country.

Ignore it if you wish, it's not manditory that you know everything. No, not mandatory. Just very convenient that I do.
So where does the school shooting fit into the pattern of anti-corporate mikemoorism? Or is that the exception that proves the rule!?
To: Dan Day
Dan... You can buy these things online for as cheap as $15.00 somebody posted links on one of the FR threads today to where people can buy them. They are easy to get!
To: Dan Day
Dan... just do a search on ebay for "Voice Changer"
To: John Jamieson
Oh, I forgot. </sarcasm>
The OBL vitriol involving Bush took place after the USA set out on the warpath to Afghanistan. What that would have to do with the purported psychology of hypothetically having thwarted the 9/11 attacks, you have not made clear.
