exactly.
we don't stand a chance against the coming onslaught with thinking like that in charge of things ...
This is getting way too complicated for me, and I have been following this kind of stuff for a long time.
I'm not even all that sure its a ME terrorist any more. But is sure the H3!! is someone re-writing the playbook.
Per Loin Posted: "Speculation: These two guys have nothing to do with the sniping. They are day laborers, or small time contractors. They run an ad somewhere. Sniper contacts them and tells them he has work for them at that school. They show up at the school, but nobody there. Sniper has given them number to contact him at. That number is the number Moose made reference to. One of the two goes to a phone booth to call that number, while other waits at school, in case anyone shows up. Police move in as soon as number is called. Sniper laughs. 315 posted on 10/21/02 9:32 AM Pacific by per loin ============================================================
If this is true, the sniper played the two illegals and Chief Moose like a cat plays with a mouse, or as one our Freeper Wits noted, like a cat plays with a Moose! Notice that Moose cancelled his second appearance for the day and had the good sense to have professional PR lady talk to the reporters.
Now the 64 million $ question, will the sniper/snipers strike again to night to show that they are still in control of the situation?
I started a thread yesterday on how innocent civilians are being treated like criminals because they are driving a white van. Many Freepers criticized me for questioning police tactics. I think it is right to question the police tactics being used here. There is a lot of hysteria out there and cops are being pressured to show the public (and media) that they are "doing something."
I wish they would just focus on the job at hand and tell the media to put away the cameras and mikes. That is, conduct no more press conferences and if there is something important to get out to the public, issue a press release. The press conferences have been as useless as White House press conferences. Nothing but a bunch of "I-can't-say-at-this-times" and "We-cannot-comment-on-the-specifics-of-this-investigations." A total waste of time.
Well as I said, I had a thread yesterday about the stupidity of pulling over white vans willy-nilly and in some cases, pulling the occupants out at gunpoint. Some Freepers on yesterday's thread cheered this practice and called me a "cop-basher" for having the audacity to question it. Some even said that they would happily comply to having a "felon stop" performed upon them. (A felon stop is when the cops order you out of the car at gunpoint and have you lie face-first on the ground with your hands up.) I doubt that any of these folks own or drive white vans in the D.C area.
Now when this "white van" was pulled over this morning and for a short time, it seemed that the snipers were caught, I braced for a round of "I-told-you-so's" from the Police State crowd. Actually I wouldn't have minded the abuse if it meant the killers were finally caught. But alas, it turns out to be a couple of harmless jerk-offs who shouldn't even be in this country. Again, a total over-reaction by the police. At least in this case, it had the benefit of getting two illegal aliens out of the country. It's an awfully expensive way to deport illegal aliens however. I'd rather have the cops focus on finding the snipers and let the Immigration Department deal with getting the illegals out of the country.
I also would not want to be the LEO standing at the phone booth waiting for the call to come in. (Next target?)
That's another thing! I simply could not believe the 6 or so hours of basically constant coverage today, every major news network guilty, of nothing but a steady parade of "experts" and "consultants" giving every imaginable theory, creating every conceivable scenario, having little real idea of what they spoke, since not many clues have been forthcoming, all the while waiting breathlessly for the possibility that someone in uniform might enter the general vicinity of a microphone somewhere. And isn't it possible they are doing more harm than good with all this coverage? Of course the sniper is loving it. Example - "All his victims are adults..." Bang, innocent kid shot down. "He only attacks during the daylight hours..." til the next one. "Still, never on weekends..." I'm sure the man and his wife simply stopping for dinner and gas last Saturday are so grateful.
Ugh. End rant. :) I'm just a tad irritated that after all this today, it was in fact all a big mistake.
Actually, the police didn't say that they were confident that they had the sniper in custody, at least if you're referring to the FNC coverage this morning. That was what the news reader said, and it appeared to be a conclusion drawn by him. I saw that when he said that. He referred to something that they (at FNC)were monitoring that led him to that conclusion.
The police are getting a bum rap. The media's mistakes are being attributed to the police. Just today I heard some talking head on FNC (I think it was Colmes talking to David Asman) basically saying that because the police said that the sniper doesn't work on weekends, the sniper shot the man at Ponderosa Saturday night. Well, it wasn't the police who went on and on about that. It was Fox News. I can't count the number of times last week one of them would say that the shooter responded to the speculation that he wouldn't go after school children by shooting the 13-year-old boy, and then in the same breath go on to say that the sniper only shoots people on weekends.
The police are keeping details from the press, so the press is filling up the airwaves with endless speculation.
I think everyone involved are already taking orders from the feds. The appearance of local control is just a 'front.'
