Overnight News: The 37-year old victim had surgery again last night, vital signs stable and he's breathing with the aid of a respirator. Chief Moose said last night the shooter left a phone number and read a mysterious statement that he said would only be understood by the shooter. He was correct - we are all confused.

Assume two people, one of whom was going along to unload the produce and packaged goods at a middle-eastern store North of Richmond (which would naturally be served out of a larger warehouse operation in the DC suburbs with many more Moslems around).
The individual figures out he's with the "wrong guy" somewhere along the trip. At dinner at the Ponderosa (which I believe is "halal") he drops a note for the cops.
No doubt he will be dead himself as soon as the guy he was with finds out about the note!
That's why Charlie Moose should have just made the call and not worried about who was answering the phone!
Hope that clears up the confusion.
This presumes that the note was found at the restaurant - but it will work as well if the note was found at the spot the truck stopped so the shooter could fire his weapon.

Fox News is reporting that other Tarot cards have been left at the other crime scenes....let's hope today is the day they get this POS.

madam:
i would like to take this opportunity to publicly apologize for aiding in the
general degeneration of last night's portion of this fine thread.
i can only ask in my defense that, given our having been subjected to the chief's
ebonic presence yet again, you would bear in mind the well-known and
causal link in these quarters between moose and cheese.
while unable, at this time, to foreswear a recurrence of the misdemeanors
of which this mea culpa is the subject, i can assure you and your listeners
that should such behaviour recur, no tarot cards will be left at the scene
in some irresponsible and/or churlish attempt to muddy the waters.
now, about that plea bargain ...

Did anyone catch David Bloom's report on the Today show this morning? I thought I heard him saying something about a source reporting that if the shooter doesn't get what he wants (whatever he indicated in his note) that things could get pretty bad around there for a while? Did anyone else catch that report?

Morning, Ms Peach.
What concerns me today, is the closing of the schools.
Just today? Or when exactly do they plan on reopening them?

One problem is that just when we need police forces with really competent professionals I think unfortunately too many are staffed especially at command levels with PC types
Over the years tests have been dumbed down and quota systems imposed etc etc
We are paying and going to continue to pay for this folly and it doesn't look like it's going to be corrected or even discussed anytime soon
Same holds true for the fear of profiling at the national level
Despite endangering lives no politician will even go near this issue

Dont be confused...
If the killer wanted to mess with the police somemore all he had to do was pick a random number out of the phone book
He knows the police and feds will be all over the poor schmuck whose number he gives
The poor guy will NEVER in a million years be able to convince anyone he doesnt know the killers and they will be in his life forever...Lord help him if he has one little thing out of line cause he is going down...for it what ever it is...
(witness anyone stopped in a white van is being arrested for anything else amiss in their lives if they were simply looking for the killer and or weapons...that would be one thing...but imo this should constitute a person no longer being secure in his person or possessions)
In the meantime he and his family are kicked out of their own house while ten thousand wind breakers are parked in his house...eating his food and clogging his toilet..waiting for the phone call to come in
Doesnt mean it is...but they will wait for it....and another innocent victim (the poor guy whose phone number was left in Ponderosa is now gonna pay...)

The message contained significant text and was found in woods behind the restaurant, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported Monday, quoting unidentified law enforcement sources. The report also said police have found more than one tarot card during the investigation.

Radio reporting that a white van has been stopped and a suspect arrested. Corner of Parham and Broad. My husband just went through that area and it's crawling with LE. Burgundy vehicle may also be involved. Helos in the air right over that area.
Don't have much more right now.

I will gaurantee you that if this is not the guy, we will have another victim sometime today.

I haven't been able to keep up with this thread, but I suspect that somehow in the response from Chief Moose there will be mention of the detainees in Gitmo. Just a hunch. No factual basis behind it...

14:33 PDT (AP) -- Montgomery County Police Chief Charles Moose, who is in charge of the investigation, disclosed for the first time that a call had been placed by someone of high interest to investigators.
"The person you called could not hear everything you said. The audio was unclear and we want to get it right. Call us back so that we can clearly understand," Moose said.
Investigators believe the call may have came from the sniper and that the caller was the same person who left a message and phone number at the scene of the latest shooting, a law enforcement source told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
Authorities did not say who received the call or when it was made.
[end] AP grammar, not mine!

Peach... You might want to put this at the beginning of the thread daily... :-)
The reward for information leading to capture of the killer stands at more than $500,000.
Authorities have established a hot line 1-888-324-9800 for any tips but said they were still overwhelmed and urged only callers with specific leads to call. People with non-urgent information should submit tips online at
www.fbi.gov/sniper/sniper.htm.
People can also write in with tips to P.O. Box 7875, Gaithersburg, Md. 20898-7875.
