Afternoon, IG. Mail Call Monday is sure a great day. Hearing from our troops that they feel like they can find a piece of home at the Canteen is so wonderful. They work so hard at keeping the United State free.

This is a terrific graphic and states exactly what the Canteen stands for: HONORING ALL WHO SERVED AND THOSE WHO SERVE NOW! Thanks.

And then a hero comes along with the strength to carry on And you cast your fears aside and you know you can survive When you feel like hope is gone, look inside you and be strong And you'll finally see the truth - that a hero lies in you!

Johnny, USAF Hi Johnny,
please thank your brothers for me for their service to our country. And a special thanks and welcome home to your Dad for his service in Vietnam. You are a very special family and we are proud of you all. Ill bet that your Dad is keeping a real close eye on you and your brothers from his spot in heaven as you visit your Canteen whenever you are able. We are here for you 24/7. Thank you for your service to our country and for the job you are doing protecting our freedoms.

SAM: Thank you for the wonderful pictures. Some of them are very touching, others fun to see (jumping off a ship in the middle of the ocean) still others, showing what our troops are exposed to, and the work they do.
Linda: Thank you for posting the Civil War letters. I cannot imagine what it must have been like to be in that war. These letters give us a personal view of the struggles these brave soldiers went through.

Naval Submarine Base, Bangor, Wash., Oct. 17, 2002 The ballistic missile submarine USS Pennsylvania (SSBN 735) arrives at her new homeport at the Naval Submarine Base, Bangor, Wash., following a voyage from her previous base at Kings Bay, Ga. Strategic deterrence has been the sole mission of the fleet ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) since its inception in 1960. The SSBN provides the nation's most survivable and enduring nuclear strike capability. The Ohio-class submarine, of which Pennsylvania is one, replaced aging SSBNs built in the 1960s and is far more capable. U.S. Navy photo by Brian Nokell. [021017-N-6497N-002] Oct. 17, 2002
At sea with USS Saipan, Oct. 19, 2002 Landing Craft Utility One Six Five Four returns to the amphibious assault ship USS Saipan (LHA 2) after a simulated assault off the coast of North Carolina. The exercise included Marines from Marine Air Ground Task Force Two Five (MAGTF-25) and was part of Type Commander Amphibious Training (TCAT). TCAT is a week-long training permiting the Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) the opportunity to work together as a cohesive unit to fine tune their basic ship-handling skills, well-deck and flight-deck operations, and other integral shipboard activities and drills. In addition, TCAT allows the sailors aboard these ships the opportunity to work closely with their Marine counterparts. U.S. Navy photo by Photographer's Mate 3rd Class Robert M Schalk. At sea with USS Saipan, Oct. 20, 2002 Members of the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) board a CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter during beach-landing training during Type Commander Amphibious Training (TCAT) exercises off the coast of North Carolina. Navy and Marine Corps expeditionary forces integrated air, land, and sea combined arms units are ideally suited to meet the challenges of the 21st century security environment. They are powerful instruments of national policy and provide the National Command Authority with a multitude of diplomatic and military options to support U.S. foreign policy initiatives. That's my favorite picture, too, cote! (I'm not far from Whidbey.) Thanks you guys, for the fantastic photos.

Al,Marty, Joe and Scully the Scrounger, USNAVY, The Pirates!
Guys, you've really outdone yourselves this time! Who would have thought that Pirates could be poetic, eh? But what's this about question marks? Some guy doesn't know his own name? That's not like any of the guys I hang out with. We all know exactly who we are and why we're here...it's for you, and for your brothers and sisters in uniform around the world! Y'all take care of yourselves, we're waiting here for your safe return.
Here's a guy with a real identity problem...
