I agree. This is stupid. Living in fear...

Your post about parents being overprotective has a lot of truth in it.
One bitter January day some years ago, Pennsylvania schools were closed because of some snow. While the kids were home watching TV, a news station burst in on their cartoons with live footage of a press conference--the one where Bud Dwyer capped himself, live and in living color.
We can't protect the kids from everything.

However, you can bet that if they aren't involved this time, terrorist groups like Al Qaida are now going "Hmmmmm."Absolutely. And if not AQ, it'll be PETA or others.

The message we are sending our kids is that we are in a shooting war in our own country.

we need some TIME to get organized. This is still brand new. Logic falling on deaf ears

We are NOT capable anymore, to answer your question. Many of the posts here tonight prove that.
I thought the Liberals were the "mommy-party", but tonight, I dont know.
I can't believe this is FR. The response to this is insane. More Americans are killed in car wrecks than this thing and we have people so scared that they either want a police state or just shut everything down.

You got it wrong, not men's downfall, but the entire country. You cant run a country on emotion.
That is what you have today, emotion winning out over common sense and logic. That is what the woman's movement has done for this nation, and like it or not, it is getting worse every day.
Stating those facts doesnt make one a woman hater.

The sniper(s) have not struck at the same location twice.
Some of the classmates of the children these days are more dangerous than outside threats. Yet, when parent's send them off to school each day, they don't give their safety/well being a second thought.

I can't believe this is FR. Me neither.
I dont get it. We are really in trouble when people on FR support this craziness.
When did we become such cowards?

We need time to get organized. This will happen over and over again now, and it's time to make plans. These @#$%$#* are laughing, yes. But they won't for long, and the next ones might not have time to laugh at all. We're learning from this and we'll deal with it. But tomorrow is still too early.

Amen.
The most powerful nation on earth is setting a fine example tonight. And we wonder why some of our allies are finding it hard to join us against Iraq.

I could not believe my ears when these idiot bureucrats announced that they were going to close the Richmond schools. Then, like lemmings, the private schools followed suit. This is crazy and sends all the wrong messages to the children.
Many of you people make me want to retch with your wailing about protect the kiddies at all costs. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves. I've never read such politically correct drivel in all my years at FR. Go to DU where you belong, you pukes. And take your snivelling lttle kids clutching at your apron strings with you.
By the way, we live in Richmond, and we have a son in the 9th grade. He has learned not to be intimidated by snipers, bullies, government, and the politically correct soccer moms and soccer dads who seem to have reared their ugly heads right here.
Sorry, but I am really pi**ed.

So what are we going to do? Shut the schools down on Tuesday too? Then he'll just wait until Wednesday. And so on. I'm afraid that some would just close the schools down for the long term.
I would guess that in this same period, about ten-times more children have been run down by cars in VA then shot at, but hey, maybe we can just keep them indoors until they are old enough to hide in their own houses?

Homeschooling is one possibility, but it isn't for all since many would go uneducated. Well, they're going uneducated now. What's the difference. You aren't suggesting any are bing educated in the government schools now, are you?

Then let's git the men out with their shot guns and rifles, like the good ole days, and form a militia, protecting their families and friends. Oh, wait a minute, I bet LE wouldn't like that, wouldn't allow that. Okay, let's see. Uh, okay, we can send the men out on patrol, walking and driving, in front of schools and businesses. Oh, wait, they won't be armed and they'd probably get fired. Oh, okay, well, we can have the 10 police officers and 3 sheriff deputies do it all....and, they can keep monitoring all the other criminals in the town, too. Yep, that'll work this week, just fine.
