This will be far fetched and yes I have my tin foil so here goes;
Suppose the number was to some house in the woods. The police trace the number, no answer. The police go to the house find the nutcase's wife and kids murdered. They let him know they found them and want him to call "home".
OR,
All they find is some cryptic message at a phone booth or house with that number? (going back to the terrorist theory)
OK
Or a cell phone he told them to set up.

If the note just had the number "911" and nothing else would you conclude it had nothing to do with AQ?No. I am not locked into my position.
I would then change my mind, based on the new evidence, and conclude it was AQ. But as of right now, based only on what the public knows. this case is pointing away from that scenario.

Why publicize the military spy plane?
To cover our much more sophisticated means of surveillance.
Why are LEO's still confident about catching this dude?
Because of our much more sophisticated means of surveillance.
Why aren't the LEO's releasing more clues?
Because all the good clues are being gathered by our much more sophisticated means of surveillance.
This is what I was hoping for. Now I am totally disillusioned about our capacity to fight this.

I think we had this figured out about 250 posts ago. Thanks for your insight.

I bet this is what the request was... I bet they spent today trying to figure out why he picked the certain number hoping it might lead them to him. They probably found nothing and put the phone number into action for the sniper to use at his request. I bet he calls it and I bet he makes his calls brief so that they cannot be traced. All he needs is a few seconds to make a statement to someone. He no longer has to leave tarot cards or notes that might blow away at each scene. Something tells me he has been leaving notes for them at each scene, but they have been missed or blew away and were lost. The sniper is not totally stupid... he wants to talk to someone specifically, maybe Moose, shucks he may even want to talk to the president directly. This could be the workings of an Iraqi that is living in this country and he is upset over Bush wanting to go into Iraqi.

Neenah...are you good at anagrams? I was thinking that a lot of the towns where the sniper has struck have many the same letters in them. Manassas, Massaponax, Falls Church, Ashland--there's a lot of repetition of a's, l's, and s's. Is there some kind of coded message in the names of the towns?
I'd be real nervous if I lived in Salisbury, MD.

CNN is reporting that forensic evidence was collected in the woods behind the Ponderosa restaurant and the evidence is being evaluated by the feds now.

I wouldn't underestimate these guys. They were able somehow to kill Linda Franklin, who I believe was involved in this investigation.

If it's a terrorist cell doing this then they have the $$$ for the kind of toys it takes to bounce calls in a manner that the call won't be traced.
Time for a Red Herring.

I didn't say we should give in.Never give in to a terrorist or kidnapper or anyone else that threatens your life if you don't play along, cuz they gonna try and kill you in the end anyways.

"Now I am totally disillusioned about our capacity to fight this."
Well if you can think of anyways to do it better you should call the police and make the suggestion...
Establishing communication is a start...

Sorry. I couldn't read the whole thread. :) Has anyone confirmed this was the case?

About the Bomb theory, I guess it's as good as any of the others we are speculating about..
Listening to CNN, and a female Criminologist said message found "in the woods"...then flash forward to the next person talking and that person said "in the restaurant".
So where was the message really found...go figure.

What new evidence? You do not know what the message said. It could just as easily have said just "911" as anything else. Clearly Moose would have "interpreted" that as a phone number to try to establish contact.
The point is, we do not have evidence to justify speculating for or against an AQ involvement.

One of Rahman's sons, Ahmed Abdul Rahman, was in the videotape and urged Muslims to "move forward and shed blood." The northern alliance announced Thursday that it captured Ahmed, who goes by the name "God's sword."
