I teach American history and we have never fought a FOREIGN enemy on our own shores...all the combatants in the civil war were Americans!

Didn't the British burn Washington during the War of 1812? Wasn't General Pershing chasing Pancho Villa around Arizona or New Mexico prior to WW I?

If memory serves I believe Pancho waltzed across the border and burned down a town in New Mexico.

Not to mention besieging Baltimore, from which incident Francis Scot Key penned the words that became the National Anthem. Or the Battle of New Orleans, which gave us nice catchy tune, and President Andrew Jackson.

Maybe a little, mostly he was chasing him around northern Mexico, and not catching him either.
