With this type of "my rights" are more important than national sovereignty and security, there is little to stop Islam's radical spread

The "my Rights" folks here are also the ones most adamant about maintaining our national sovereignty and security (through a secure border, reformed immigration policies, and an amred citizenry).

It's not an "either/or" choice.

Or do you just think we should repeal the Bill of Rights until this "war" is over? And I'm not trying to be flippant here. What specific Rights do you think we should surrender (1st amendment, 2nd, 4th, other unenumerated Rights, etc....)?

I honestly don't know which would have to be suspended, but I know there is historical precedence. Face it, life will not be the same post 911, or won't be for a long time.

Common sense says you have to take difficult steps to root out the enemies when they are in your midst. But, if we are going to successfully win this war, the discussion cannot be limited by those who would say that, a-priori, we cannot and will not change any part of our lives. We will perish if we don't respond.

For the record, I don't believe that a suspension of the 2nd amendment is negotiable, because at that point we are abandoning the ability to defend our lives by our own efforts.

I somehow just cannot imagine if this were happening in George Washington's time or Patrick Henry's time, that, when learning that someone had been shot by an enemy (most likely) he would say, "Well don't ask my help! I have my rights you know!"

Their response would have been "How can I help? Martha, get me my gun!"

Mulder, I associate myself with your remarks. Others obviously disagree. Fine.

The question is not what we would do to stop the sniper or snipers. That is for law enforcement to decide. The question is which rights should we give up to catch these animals.

We could all take our weapons in and have them fired, signatured, cataloged. We could have every car searched on the highways each time there is a shooting. We could have each house searched within a certain radius of each shooting. And countless other things people much smarter than I could think of.

Some of us happen to believe that would be very unwise. We are entitled to that belief or we not.
