Police search for possible Mesa sniper
10/18/2002

By 3TV / azfamily.com

Police in the East Valley say they think four shootings may be tied to the same suspect, but that man has not been taken into custody.

Two people were reportedly shot and wounded on Sept. 21 near a mobile home park near Val Vista Road and University Drive. Two weeks later, a woman was shot while sitting inside her mobile home. Just hours later, another woman was hit while waiting at a bus stop.

Police say they have been interviewing a man who may be involved.

Detectives are still waiting for ballistic test results. Nobody has been charged.

This is the way to handle snipers: rather than tell civilians to stay out of it, coordinate with the NRA. Ask armed citizens from all over the country to come and start patrols. Have them watch a training video that emphasizes caution to avoid friendly fire. I guarantee that the sniper would never get more than 2 more targets, if that many. FReegards....

I don't think this is workable at all. A bunch of civilians, armed, and on patrol? How do you tell who is a patroller and who is the sniper? I can imagine some pretty nasty incidents.

Way too simple and effective to be accepted, besides, the lefties would rather face sniper fire than an armed citizenry.

Well, it doesn't look like our LE or government knows how to protect us does it?

I saw something about this on the news last night. As I recall, these incidents happened in north Mesa near the Salt River. Police interviewed a guy, and the suggestion was that he simply was a very bad and reckless bird hunter. Sounds like folks had been hit by bird shot or air gun pellets.

It's not the "policia's" duty to *protect us*. They just take the statements, make out a report and search for the perp.

It's up to each of us to protect ourselves.

How do you think armies know who to shoot? There are time tested methods. The cheapest one is to have them know who the other armed citizens are in that area.

Is anyone else worried about what might happen in this country if a second DC-style sniper starts up another part of the country while the first one still hasn't been caught?

Interesting, how come this hasn't been all over the breaking news?

"How do you think armies know who to shoot? There are time tested methods."

I believe the risk of friendly fire is pretty high in wartime.

I will never forget a quote from some idiot lefty who went to the Mideast to be a human shield. After being shot, the dolt whined, "I didn't think they would use real bullets."

Pretty simplistic, Arthur. Civilians, in a civilian environment are hard to tell apart. No uniforms; no organization. Armies can tell who's who based on these things, and position, etc. Civilians are just the opposite. Sending out a bunch of armed civilians to hunt some other armed civilian is a recipe for tragedy.

That's why we have professional LEOs. Do they always find their suspect quickly? Nope. Do they shoot each other? Not often.

I don't want a bunch of armed civilians of any kind running around looking for bad guys. Too much risk there.

Because this is not to be covered unless there are too many witnesses for them NOT to cover it.

This is them.

Look, this is a war between police who have killed people over marijuana busts and people who want accountability from those police.

It's gonna happen everywhere a cop has killed a civilian over pot.

Check out your local force(s) now.
