Subject: HEAD UP: Special Alert from SierraTimes.com

http://www.SierraTimes.com
This is Sierra Times Special Report

THU 10.17.02 18:15 Sierra Time

We believe we have several issues developing around the county - all *possibly*
involving the sniper mess. There have been three unexplained shootings in the Long
Island, New York Area, and two in near Columbus, Ohio.

Have there been any unexplained shootings in your news coverage area?
(please supply URL's to the story if there are any)

You can write to us at
news@sierratimes.com

Also: HEADS UP MARYLAND (and NO. VA)- We have received information from several sources in the Maryland area that
certain gun owners are being contacted by persons
claiming to be from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms asking (read: demanding) to "borrow" firearms for
ballistic fingerprinting as part of the DC sniper investigation. Those that do not comply are threatened with a visit
from the folks sporting the basic black dress code.

At least 5000 weapons have been 'voluntarily' surrendered in Maryland and Northern Virginia to
date.

We suspect those that comply will be engaging in a voluntary firearm confiscation program in the Maryland/DC area. If
you have received this call, please consult legal counsel *immediately*, and send a notice to this the following e-mail
address:

editor@sierratimes.com

We also suggest the following:
(from Gary Marbut)

Authentication of and response to phone inquiries from alleged BATF or FBI agents in re firearm possession:

1.  Ask for name, agency identification number (every agency uses something, badge number, etc), and telephone number.
If they won't give them, tell the caller to have his supervisor call and hang up.

2.   Once you get the identity data, tell the caller you will verify their identity with the 911 operator.  Then call
911 (all calls are recorded) and report the incident asking them to verify that the caller is not a hoaxer or to notify
the appropriate agency if it is a hoax.

2.   If the caller's bona fides are verified by the 911 operator, you can decide whether or not to contact an attorney.
If you do, he or she (not you, the client) will most likely call the agent back and say you'll be happy to respond to a
valid subpoena or warrant but not to participate in
this fishing expedition.   On the other hand, if you decide to let them see/test your firearm, make certain your
attorney negotiates the circumstances of it's prompt return FIRST.  Have the agency (through a higher up)  promise to
return it immediately after the test, agree to repair or compensate you for any damage, and to pay your attorney fees
and costs if you have to demand  or sue for it's return.

3.   Cooperation without an attorney representing you is simply too dangerous in view of both agencies recent record of
false testimony, false evidence, false affidavits to courts, etc.  They simply cannot be trusted.

Thank you,
Look for more coming up on The Sierra Times

I beg to differ. Law enforcement agencies have non-emergency numbers, and that's the number to call. The reason stated for calling 911 is to have the call taped, not because it's an emergency. If one wants the call taped, one can tape. In Maryland, one has to have the consent of the other person to tape the call and that can be achieved by informing the law enforcement agency that one wants to tape the call. If they don't consent to taping the call, then a call to 911 may be appropriate, but not before.

Folks - this is just the tip of the iceberg. We ain't seen nothing yet. Just wait until the first bombs fall on Iraq. Don't take me wrong, they need to fall, and the sooner the better. However as soon as they fall there will be sleeper cells all over the country come to life.

The Boy Scouts say it best:
BE PREPARED!

How many of you have a full tank of gas in all vehicles? How about a supply of food and water? How about fuel for the winter if you live in a cold climate? Better stock up on whatever it is you might need.

Thanks for posting this. I read it in my e-mails this morning. Very interesting. I am going to keep an eye out for anymore in the Long Island Area. I am hoping it was just a idiotic thrill seeker and nothing more.

"but I don't know if this is the proper use of 911."

This is the catch-22 of the 911 system. They don't want the lines tied up with unneeded calls, but they want all calls recorded.

In my city of Arlington, Texas (Dallas/Fort Worth), it is required that ALL calls to the Police Department (non emergeycy) go through the 911 system. If you call the PD, they will inform you that you have to hang up, call the 911 number and then ask to be transfered to the PD and department that you request. I have heard that this is not local only and is common through out the US.

As a note: When I do have a need to contact the local PD and have to go through the 911 system, I make a point to state that the PD told me to tie up the 911 system with a non emergency call, just to have this recorded.

I was contacted on tuesday by a man who said he was with the FBI and was contacting all AR-15 and Mini-14 gun owners in Maryland and did I still own these guns and would I be willing to answer a few questions if they felt it was neccessary to interview me. I asked him how did he know I purchased the guns he was questioning me about and I was under the impression Maryland was not allowed to keep records on gun purchases. He said that they were using the hard copy of the original disclosure form I filled out when I purchased the guns over 10 years ago and these records were obtained from the Maryland State Police and it was perfectly legal for him to contact gun owners in Maryland. He did not ask me anything about ballistic fingerprinting my guns. I told him he could interview me anytime he wanted and gave him the phone number where I could be reached during the day. He said Thank You and hung up. An insurance adjuster that frequently writes estimates on wrecked cars at my shop, told me he was also contacted by the FBI and was questioned in the same manner I was. He didn't mention any request to fingerprint his guns either.

However as soon as they fall there will be sleeper cells all over the country come to life.

Why, how can that be. GWB has been at war with terror for over a year. Certainly it must be safer now than before.

By the way, these "sleeper calls all over the country," are those the same ones that "rose up" during Desert Storm, (as we were then threatened)?

The Boy Scout motto is, Be Prepared, not Be Paranoid.

(Bet you did this for Y2K too, huh?)

Tying up that line to verify an ID doesn't seem to be an emergency.

I dunno; the threat that your front door might be kicked in by a bunch of JBT's seems to been a serious enough situtation for me to want to get something on record.

Amazing how many of these folks were sitting on their roofs with rifles, after 911, and looking for hijacked airliners. :~)

I am filing it under the Hmmm could this mean something else might be coming at some stores that have Jewish sounding names. I am reminded of the now defunct Horowitz department stores that used to be common in CT.

There are several other stores that have supposedly Jewish sounding names. In some ways this reminds me of how the 9/11 hijackers were behaving in August 01.
