Martha Burk, head of the National Council of Women's Organizations, said the group will focus on the companies that sponsor the PGA Tour on a national level, a group that includes such heavy hitters as Anheuser-Busch and Bank of America.

One problem.

The Masters is not a PGA event. PGA players make up the field, but that is a completely different matter.

They obviously don't have jack to scream about if all they can do is spend their time yapping about a golf course. Pathetic! Proves they no longer have a reason for their existance.

In essence, the NCWO's strategy is a three-pronged one in which it hopes to pressure PGA sponsors to pressure the PGA Tour to pressure Augusta National.

Sounds like Ms Burke is getting desperate if she has to resort to third party blackmail.

Exactly.

Maybe they should focus their efforts on the Islamists who want to turn this country into an Islamic Republic.

Amendment 1

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

I think the members of Augusta National should sue to join the NCWO! If we have the right to free association in this country, it's for everyone. You can't have an organization that's for women only if you can't have one for men.

Golf-wise, I think they should combine the men's and women's tours. They either could use the men's/women's tees, as appropriate, and compete against one another, or they could score men vs. men and women vs. women, but play at the same tournament. More exposure for everyone, and many of the women could beat some of the men straight up!

Tiger Woods will learn soon enough that if you stand in the
middle of the road you'll get hit from both directions.

Maybe he'll stay out the Masters if the heat gets too hot! I want Vijay Singh to win again, anyway. Isn't it funny that Vijay doesn't get asked for the "minority golfer" quotes, even though he's the darkest on the PGA Tour? I expect he'd say something Politically Incorrect.

The PGA is getting all the exposure it wants or needs right now as it is. Adding LPGA players to PGA events would, if anything, decrease PGA exposure, as it would turn off viewers by forcing them to watch less talented golfers with a microscopic chance of winning. (even from the ladies' tees). There are some very respectable players on the ladies' tour, but they are not in the same solar system as the PGA players. Even if we ignore the lack of distance off hte tee for the moment. Did you watch the made for TV event last year with Tiger & Sorenstam against Duval an Webb? It was clear that the men were superior in every aspect of the game. By a lot. And Annika and Kari are good players. The LPGA plays on easy courses with holes cut in the dead-center of slow greens. Woman against woman golf can be very entertaining, but on PGA Tour courses it would be a rare week when more than one or two women even made the cut.

Okay, pardon my uniformed opinion! I must have been confused by the feminist rhetoric in Golf Digest! Seriously, I expect you're correct. I don't get to watch golf as much as I'd like; I have six children under 12.

She'd get a lot more support if she was demanding that they let EVERYBODY play at the Augusta National. :o)

How is forcing the National to let one rich woman join going to affect anyone else's life? It's private club is not a public accomodation.

No prob. It's just that the PGA tour has had enough bullying from the PC crowd recently. I seriously doubt that any other major sport would be browbeaten into making exceptions so that handicapped players could compete.

Attention WPGA... Create your own excellent Golf Club and keep the men out... Oh wait, no, that would require you to not act like a victim and take some initiative....

No golfer will sit out of the Masters over this. Nike makes a lot more off a Tiger win than it loses if a bunch of dykes decide to switch balls.

PS> Vjay Singh is a cheater

I am a lady golfer. Martha Burk does not speak for me, and I bet she's not a golfer either.

Most lady golfers will admit the women's game is much different than the men's. We just don't have the distance. I see men with lousey half-swings who reverse pivot and everything else under the sun, but they can still hit the ball twice as far as the best lady golfers with the finest form. They can get away with a lot simply because of superior upper body strength. That reason alone makes it reasonable for men to have an exclusive club if they so desire. If they don't want to construct women's tees and change their course in that way, so be it. I respect their rights and understand their reasoning.

Maybe if Augusta National or the PGA fights the Freedom of Association battle with enough chutzpah, we'll get some case law to keep men who like boys away from our Cub Scouts.

Ya know, for some women, the thought of a group of old guys getting together and enjoying themselves, without women present, is just too much to bear. It kills them to think that some men can organize their lives without having to get a permission slip from a woman.

What's next Martha? My Wednesday evening poker group?

I look forward to seeing these feminazis around here next spring. I'm going to give them a piece of my mind, up close and personal.
