...and like Condoleezza Rice, who, in 2008, will likely become both the first African American and the first woman elected president of the United States. (For the record and you heard it here first she'll skewer Hillary, platitude by platitude, in a series of Nielson-bonanza debates and take the election in a landslide, thus officially dragging America out of the Clinton Era, that 16-year stretch of moral manure we collectively stepped in back in 1992.)OK, this guy just became my favorite writer.

Coulter versus Dowd, by the way, would be an even worse massacre of a debate than Condi versus Hillary because Coulter would have no mercy.) i would pay $$$ to see this!

The minimum requirement for membership in the intelligentsia used to be, well, intelligence. This is no longer the case. Rather, what is now required is the mere sense of your own superiority, the smirky confidence that flows from an undergraduate grasp of history, philosophy, and literature, and which can only be sustained by a maniacal deafness to counterarguments. Listening to your political opponents is deadly under such circumstances; they must therefore be dismissed, a priori, as stupid. That just about sums up the entire liiberal press...
To: WarrenC
...make that LIEberal! hehe
To: WarrenC
can hardly write 600 words without a gratuitous swipe at George Bush's supposed lack of intelligence.
I think it's indicative of an overwhelming fear that she, Dowd, is actually the stupid one-- and that she and her minions on the left can taste their bitterness at having someone for whom they have so little regard so thoroughly and continuously cleaning their clocks.
As unpleasant as this whole situation is for all of us, I haven't had this much fun since impeachment, because without lifting a finger we are witness to what these moronic commie lefties are really all about.
May you live, as the saying goes, in interesting times.

But never in recorded history has a less cerebrally, morally, or spiritually elite Elite looked down their noses at the majority of their countrymen. I think that it has happened before: Hitler's Brownshirts considered themselves to be an elite, even intellectual. But in reality they were just thugs. Soviet Russia's elites were similarly handicapped. Maureen is just a commissar for the socialist street gangs.

This one's a keeper:
Elitism, to be sure, is as old as human society. But never in recorded history has a less cerebrally, morally, or spiritually elite Elite looked down their noses at the majority of their countrymen. The minimum requirement for membership in the intelligentsia used to be, well, intelligence. This is no longer the case. Rather, what is now required is the mere sense of your own superiority . . .

Maureen, wrong about almost everything, has been defeated by W's intrinsic goodness and reduced to the status of a bitter, scornful wallflower.

Wallflower is an apt description, athough I prefer the term "barren spinster." As you can probably tell, she crossed the line of tolerance from me quite some time ago and I, like Ann Coulter, have no mercy left.
Deep in her heart Maureen resents the fact that Laura Bush, the quiet librarian, captured the heart of the fraternity president while she, vivacious and intellectual Maureen, looks across the city room at R.W. Apple and Adam Clymer.
This wasn't the way things were supposed to turn out for her. Maureen really thought she was going to marry Michael Douglas and queen it over everyone at her high school reunion. Instead, she must attend alone and endure the pitying looks of those less brilliant classmates who have happy lives. All the columns and Pulitzer prizes will avail her nothing as she gradually becomes the Helen Thomas of her generation.

I think that it has happened before: Hitler's Brownshirts considered themselves to be an elite, even intellectual. But in reality they were just thugs. Soviet Russia's elites were similarly handicapped. Maureen is just a commissar for the socialist street gangs. Reminds me of a fascinating quote from a Chinese Com government during the "International Woman's Conference" held in China during the Clinton administration.
The govt official said that they were studying Hillary's speechmaking method to understand her power and success. They concluded: her trick was to never actually make any arguments -- just state conclusions that were all already accepted as self-evident by her audience. (They found that interesting and perhaps admirable, and to be emulated).

In Dowd's last column she said that the sniper had outsmarted the police. A good example of what Goldblatt means when he says, "The problem with this sort of writing is that it's free-floating sarcasm."

Wallflower is an apt description, athough I prefer the term "barren spinster."I've long said that liberal 'wits' and 'wags' such as Dowd, Moore and Franken can never be truly funny because they have no goodness or charity in their hearts - they are indeed 'barren' of almost all commodities that make up the moral and emotional balance one needs to truly be capable of laughter.
One five-minute briefing by Rummy or Cheney, or a parting quip by W himself far outshines the many hours of twisted suffering the leftists put into crafting their 'humor'.
