October 17, 2002 -- After two weeks of terror at the hands of the psycho sniper, residents of Virginia's suburbs are taking matters - and guns - into their own hands. In Spotsylvania, Stafford, Prince William and Fairfax counties - all at or near sniper attacks - officials report up to a 500 percent increase in applications for concealed-weapons permits, and gun sales are up nearly as much.

Not true. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend is a gun-grabber. She has been taking advantage of the sniper situation, for political purposes. According to Deborah Orin of the New York Post, it is backfiring.
But her gun ad may have boomeranged - a new poll found voters saw it as inappropriate by a 2-1 margin - 55 to 27 percent. Among undecideds, 63 percent say it was a no-no. The race is still a statistical tie with Townsend up one point in a state Al Gore won by 17.
Her competition, Bob Ehrlich, has said that he would review gun laws to see if they have been effective, especially the "ballistics fingerprinting" of all newly purchased handguns - which has resulted in absolutely zero convictions.
Naturally, the DemocRATs and their willing accomplices at the Baltimore Sun are claiming that Ehrlich is a tool of the NRA.

The NRA has a lovely shooting range just off Route 50 in Fairfax. I was just telling my daughter tonight that we need to make time to get down there. I haven't applied for my concealed weapons permit yet -- everyone must be thinking along the same lines -- you're all ahead of me. A lot of people are secretly hoping to run the creep(s) over with their cars if given a chance. [My liberal neighbors have more guns and ammo than I will ever have.]
