[history]
October 17, 2002 -- After two weeks of terror at the hands of the psycho sniper, residents of Virginia's suburbs are taking matters - and guns - into their own hands. In Spotsylvania, Stafford, Prince William and Fairfax counties - all at or near sniper attacks - officials report up to a 500 percent increase in applications for concealed-weapons permits, and gun sales are up nearly as much.

Bad news for the gun grabbers...
Even worse news if this turns out to be foreign terrorism.

The irony is that some of these people will still say they are for stricter gun laws.

""Bad news for the gun grabbers... ""
......and perhaps good news for pro-self protection people. I don't mean the sniper is good news, rather the fact that so many people are suddenly recognizing the need for self-defense.

The wife and I were just at the Fiarfax County Office yesterday applying for ours....
Thank GOD I don't live in MD anymore!

applications for concealed-weapons permits, and gun sales are up nearly as much. In reality, it would be more effective to invest in kevlar accessories.

Great to hear that people are stepping up to the plate and taking care of their personal safety. This will make the streets safer for all of us.

"It's been crazy," said Barbara Brinklow, deputy clerk of the Spotsylvania circuit court. Quite the contrary. It's a perfectly sane response.

I saw on the idiot box last night that Radio Shack in No. VA was sold out of police scanners. Bright local citizens are trying to determine what's going on without relying on PC spokespeople telling then half-truths.

****"The sheriff already had 41 applications on his desk last Friday from the past few weeks," said Brinklow in Spotsylvania County. "We got 48 applications in the last three days."
The owner of Damage Inc., a gun shop in Stafford County, said gun sales at his store have increased 300 percent since the sniper's rampage began.******
Sherrif? You have to be approved to carry a concealed weapon in virginia or maryland? or is this just to make sure you pass the instant check?
To: dirtboy
Am I the only one to notice that far more shootings have been in Maryland, and yet the story is centered on VIRGINIA and how citizens are getting armed?
Over in Maryland I hear both the DEMS and REPUBS are running as anti-gunners. There are RINOS and LIBS lamenting gun rights. Wonder if their tone would change if Maryland citizens would start the same grassroots actions -- but then again, maybe easier to procure a self defense weapon in VA than MARYLAND. Interesting.....

"Damage Inc."
Like this guy's gun shop name.

...officials report up to a 500 percent increase in applications for concealed-weapons permits. So long as Americans can be convinced that they need to apply for a privilege to exercise a right they can expect to be denied their rights.

What was it that George Washington said about "An Armed Citizenry"?The scenario that I would like to see is the next time this A**Hole takes aim at some hapless innocent,he gets wasted by one of us with conceal/carry!What ever would be the response of"The Gun-Grabbers"??

I hated to do this, folks, but this is a full print story from the Washington
Post. I asked Admin Moderator to kill it, per the settlement with Post/LA Times.

Compare how Virginia citiznes are responding to the sniper attacks versus how Maryland's LEOs are responding...
A Montgomery County Police spokesperson is telling us to run in a zig zag pattern when out in open areas, crouch down when pumping gas, and hide.
Maryland's biggest problem is that it has been ruled by liberal socialist DemocRATS for many years, and they have also imported more than its share of gun grabbing lefties from New England to "stuff the ballot boxes" to assure their continued rule.
Free State... HA!

Actually, there have been seven in Maryland, one in DC, and four in Virginia. For those looking for any pattern to these attacks, the first six incidents occurred in a tight geographic area just north of DC. The other Maryland attack occurred northeast of the district in Bowie. The one incident actually in DC was part of the first cluster which occurred in that tight area, except it was just inside the DC border. The attacks in Virginia occurred to the west and southwest of DC. No attacks have occurred directly south or southeast of the District.
