Book: Carter, Democrats Asked Soviets to Stop Reagan, Sway U.S. Elections

Remember the old conservative charge that many of the Democrats here in America were playing footsie with the Soviets? Some Republicans even said the Russians viewed the Democrats as their favorite party.

Now bombshell revelations prove these accusations beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Peter Schweizer, a Hoover Institution research fellow, has just written a new book, "Reagan's War: The Epic Story of His Forty-Year Struggle and Final Triumph Over Communism."

This book may well well force historians to revise the history of the Cold War.

Schweizer, after scouring once classified KGB, East German Stasi and Soviet Communist Party files, discovered incontrovertible evidence that the Soviets not only played footsie with the high-ranking Democrats, they also worked behind the scenes to influence American elections.

In "Reagan's War," Schweizer shows how the Democrats worked with Moscow to try to undermine Reagan before and after he became president.

Jimmy Carter's Dirty Tricks

Soviet diplomatic accounts and material from the archives shows that in January 1984 former President Jimmy Carter dropped by Soviet Ambassador Anatoly Dobrynin's residence for a private meeting.

Carter expressed his concern about and opposition to Reagan's defense buildup. He boldly told Dobrynin that Moscow would be better off with someone else in the White House. If Reagan won, he warned, "There would not be a single agreement on arms control, especially on nuclear arms, as long as Reagan remained in power."

Using the Russians to influence the presidential election was nothing new for Carter.

Schweizer reveals Russian documents that show that in the waning days of the 1980 campaign, the Carter White House dispatched businessman Armand Hammer to the Soviet embassy.

Hammer was a longtime Soviet-phile, and he explained to the Soviet ambassador that Carter was "clearly alarmed" at the prospect of losing to Reagan.

Hammer pleaded with the Russians for help. He asked if the Kremlin could expand Jewish emigration to bolster Carter's standing in the polls.

'Carter Won't Forget That Service'

"Carter won't forget that service if he is elected," Hammer told Dobrynin.

Carter was not the only Democrat to make clear to the Russians where their loyalty lay. As the election neared in 1984, Dobrynin recalls meetings with Speaker of the House Thomas P. "Tip" O'Neill.

O'Neill told Dobrynin that no effort should be spared to prevent "that demagogue Reagan" from being re-elected.

Soviet documents report that O'Neill told Dobrynin: "If that happens, Reagan will give vent to his primitive instincts and give us a lot of trouble, probably, put us on the verge of a major armed conflict. He is a dangerous man."

Peter Schweizer...this is the same man who wrote "Victory", which detailed exactly how Reagan and Cold Warrior Bill Casey brought the Soviet Union down. Great book, much underreported precisely because it was so true, and the Demonrats must have hated it. There are some exquisite quotes from Talbot, Gailbreath and others making absolute fools of themselves in this book. His new book probably contains some real gems. Could not have come at a better time.

With regards to Carter, Schweizer tore him a new one, along with Stansfield Turner, Carter's feckless CIA director, who destroyed human intelligence sources on the ground in favor of remote satellite and electronic surveillance.

This guy is a must read. Thanks for the heads up.

Jimmy Carter is a moron, but the Nobel Committee members have finally finished the destruction of honor the Nobel Peace prize once signified, first by awarding it to Arafat a few years ago, and now by giving it to Jimmy "Neville Chamberlain" Carter. The IgNobel is to honor what the United Nations is to relevence.

If there were a worthy peace prize left to be awarded, the man who deserves it is Ronald Reagan. Giving Reagan the IgNobel now would be a slap in the face and insult to the man. The only other person I can see now who might be fit to be awarded the IgNobel is Billy Bob Clinton.

This has nothing to do with the Nobel Peace Prize and EVERYTHING to do with treachery.

Seems to me that DOJ should be investigating this. Of course, like every RAT, Jimmy the Turd will get a free pass. If Dante were living now, would he have to create a new ring of Hell, just for RATs?

This should surprise no one. The Demos used to pass arms control treaty drafts over to the Soviet embassy for their review and comment. This is not a secret, they admitted it.

It is no secret that during the contra wars, the Demos would fly down to Managua almost weekly to get their picture taken with Daniel Ortega, while voting to cut off funding to the Contras after they were already deployed and in the field.

Carter signed the Helsinki accords, essentially ceding permanent control of eastern Europe to the Soviets in exchange for, what, further controls on our military.

They have defended Castro every step of the way.

Carter was the instigator of the overthrow of a secure, western government in Iran and its replacement by the Islamofascists.

And then there is Clinton, and his exchange of missile, computer, and crypto technology in exchange for campaign cash from the Chinese embassy. Mind you, the Demos never denied accepting the cash, they simply said that since there was no "quid pro quo", there was no crime. Which is false, of course. But controlling the Justice Department means never having to say you're sorry.

And then there was his overthrow of the junta that forced out Baby Doc Duvalier, and their replacement by a communist psychotic killer in Haiti. His support of Europe's favorite heroin dealers, the KLA in Kosovo.

Treasonous, self-serving bastards.

Clearly, Clinton had good role models.

But, Jimmah builds houses for the poor

So did Kruschev. The 1950's cinder block apartment buildings in Russia are still called "Kruschev Flats" to this very day.

He boldly told Dobrynin that Moscow would be better off with someone else in the White House.

This was clearly the democrat party's invitation to the Soviets to assassinate Reagan.

Certainly puts a new counter spin on the Rat legend that VP Bush negotiated to keep the hostages from being released until after the election of President Reagan.

When was peace ever achieved through a verbal agreement? You knock the shit out of the enemy until the point that they have no other choice but to accept your terms. Consider Bush's plan today, Saddam realizes he will be able to put up some type of struggle, but he knows he's facing the real thing. And the real thing will dictate to him what he refuses to comply with currently. It's a matter of force. Bush will again justify the purpose behind the military, as Reagan did two decades ago. The three legs or however Reagan termed them are being repeated all over again and who doesn't expect the same success? Even the Leftist are now backing war and the tax plan. When the hell will the general public ever realize that what they are scared into voting for every election never seems to come true? When will they ever understand what occurs "behind the scenes" in the Leftist White House politically? Will they ever know the Leftists exist to weaken their nation?

Carter and his ilk are traitors to the USA.

Classified information becomes downgraded and "open" after a certain length of time. That time is very near to fruition.

I hope the worthless b*stard is still alive to hang, when just enough info becomes available to charge him with his crimes. It has, of course, been available to our "leaders" for decades.Perhaps at least one of them will put country before self, and restore faith in the political process of the USA.

I am not holding my breath.

I hate Carter more than Clinton. It is a toss up on which of them has more blood on their hands, but I would lean heavily towards giving Carter that award. Before you ask, let me tell you I have no source to prove my point, other than my own DD214, 1977-1986. I will make it a point to travel and spit on his eventual grave, just for my own personal satisfaction.

Rant off.

So, a reputable press. Thanks.

Even better than that. This isn't just something by a reporter with an unnamed source. This information is probably being taken from microfilm copies of the original Soviet documents, which the Hoover Institution has in its archives.

Between 1992 and 1996 the Hoover Institution and the State Achival Service of the Russian Federation carried out a cooperative project to microfilm selected documents from soviet archives. The project produced more than 7,000 reels of microfilm, or more than 8.5 million frames.

You know what would be delicious irony is if Traitor Carter scared the Iranians so much about "what madman Reagan will do if he gets in the White House" that he helped free the captives due to his exaggerations.

' Course I think the Tehran vermin WERE afraid of him even before :}
