As most of us already thought of course, and were ridiculed for it. This is terrifying, but we do know they have trained for this very kind of thing, and as I said on most posts, the government knows it too.

Many theorists are guessing there are two at least and more if using decoys and safe houses near shootings. This would make the most sense as to how they are getting away.

Eric Haney, who trained as a sniper at Fort Bragg and was a founding member of the Army's ultrasecret Delta Force, believes the shootings are the work of a pair of young men, working in tandem as military snipers are trained to do - one as the lookout, the other the shooter. But he thinks the closest they got to a real elite sharpshooter was at a Special Operations convention.

``They're utter losers, and they know they're losers,'' said Haney, who wrote a book, ``Inside Delta Force.''

Over the weekend, Haney visited nine of the 10 shooting scenes. He imagines a shooter and a spotter/driver, perhaps swapping roles after each shot. In his mind, the driver surveys the scene, tells the shooter when it is safe to fire, then pulls away calmly, unburdened by the rush of adrenaline the shooter must be experiencing.

They're clever, he said, but not pros. The longest shot to date was 100 yards, and most of the victims were standing still or walking in a straight line toward or away from the shooter.

``It's the kind of thing that if you've never shot a rifle before in your life, you and I could spend 90 minutes together and you can do this,'' said Haney, a 20-year combat veteran.

Is anyone here bothered by the fact that by calling this a possible terrorist action is just an excuse for getting the military involved in domestic policing actions. Isn't this a violation of posse comititus policy?

Everything bad that happens in the world is now blamed on Al Queda. I just have a hard time believing that Al Queda is responsible for so much of this. A straw man for a deeper agenda possibly?

Well, no kidding? That's what Freepers have been saying all along.

Many freepers have been insisting that it IS a terrorist. There is a difference. OF COURSE they "concede" that it MAY be. It MAY BE anyone until we know otherwise. It would be just as wrong for the authorities to assume it is not a terrorist as it is for freepers to assume it is.

'Zactly! It is unbelievably naive to think that for all these years, we've had virtually no constraints on millions of immigrants coming into America, and none were terrorists!

Further, it is criminal, after the events surrounding 9/11, to fail to clean up Clinton's immigration debacle.

It is probably correct that he is not alone. The simple act of being in a small group of 2 or 3 makes him invisible in the moments after an attack. Everyone is looking for a shooter, and a couple of people together are instantly ruled out in the mind of anyone looking around. The best place to hide something or someone is in the open. I don't buy the safe house idea. They simply blend into traffic in the moments following an attack. Whatever vehicle is storing the weapon has been pre-rigged with a sufficient hiding place, and is probably not the vehicle used for the attack. That way, if the authorities got smart and used dogs to sniff for powder residue, the 'dirty' vehicle wouldn't have a weapon, and you could bet that which ever one of them was driving it would be 'clean' to the dogs. Shooter and gun leave in different vehicles. Just blend in to the traffic, in less than a minute they're gone and are just like everyone around them before people even realise something has happened.

Okay, even I have to admit that Ried was a hilariously stupid terrorist.

But most of your top echelon AQ people are fairly good at tradecraft.

Best to never underestimate these people. Remember, they are out to kill us.

Undoubtedly they are terrorists. What their motives are and the flavor of terrorist are the questions at hand.

However, the consensus among the officials is that the sniper is American because the crimes do not bear the traditional hallmarks of an international terrorist attack -- nobody has claimed responsibility and U.S. intelligence has not heard chatter about the attacks.

So what? I don't remember hearing anyone clamor to take responsibility for 9/11 either. Or any other terrorist attack against Americans in recent years for that matter. And just how specific is "chatter" usually anyway? Can't be too specific, or I'd imagine we would have prevented some of the successful attacks.

I've been thinking that for a few days too. Don't the reports on both vehicles (the van and the box truck) say they both have rear bumper damage? I'm wondering where they shoot from inside their vehicles? Out of the broken tail light or something. Or near the rear damage? It seems like someone would see someone aiming a gun.
