Who reported that the shooter was 30 feet away? That's how far it is from my computer to my garage door, I can hear my dog fart from here.

The perps have already done a lot more harm than the German submarine-landed saboteurs who were executed as enemy combatants in 1942.

I will put my money on Virginia State Police over Maryland cops any day. Either will catch the perps, eventually. I think they got some decent leads this time. Don't know how they get away; probably have a stash place for the van and leave in an auto.

Well Middle Easterners are technically "white."

Who reported that the shooter was 30 feet away? I saw that on one of the threads here this morning. It was allegedly from one of the eyewitnesses.

Virginia, I believe, still has the death penalty. A couple of these shootings happened in Virginia.

Good, because whoever it is should not get the luxury of having Stanley Cohen save his life !!

"What I don't get, if they are jihadists (which seems likely if there are more than one of them in the van), is why don't they move around the country more, to find places where there is less surveillance?"
Here's a thought: A team (or individual) keeps shooting until caught (offs himself, perhaps using a big truck bomb when cops converge.) That is the signal for the next teamn to start up in a new city. And over, and over, and over, as long as there are ME gents in the US willing to die for the cause.

"Arabic words can be spelled a number of ways, with no standard "right" way for most. For example, there are over 50 ways to spell Muammar Khaddafi, and he's refused to state his favorite. It's actually a problem in that our list of terrorist names sometimes misses a person due to changing names."
And I wouldn't much care how they "spelled" my name in Arabic script.

Someone pointed out that this is enganging an awful lot of law enforcement in a particular area. Maybe a distraction for something bigger.

It time to NUKE somebody !!!!!!! No, it isn't. However, if I happened to be in my car and saw somebody get out of his car and shoot somebody and get back into his car I would try to ram his car and worry about dealing with the insurance company at a latter time.

The driver "seemed to be excessively irritated because he couldn't pull into my lane," he said. "I thought this fool was going to want to get out of the van and duke or something. But he didn't. He kept on going." All FReepers:
Think back to just after 9/11. Didn't some of Mohammed Atta's henchmen almost get into a fight at the Logan Airport parking lot in Boston? I remember something about maps and pictures of Osama being found in one of the aboandoned cars of the recently dead hijackers. Is thinking you're a bad ass part of the Al Qaeda mistique?????

The "death penalty" shouldn't even be an issue here.
If the sniper or snipers in this case turn out to be Middle Eastern, there should be no arrests, trials, or anything of that sort. This country gave a very clear indication that it was not serious about fighting terrorism back in 1993 when the WTC bombers were arrested instead of "offed" without a trace.
The U.S. government continues to operate in this fashion even after 9/11 -- witness the arrests all over the world that have been proudly announced periodically over the last year.
This isn't a freakin' "war on terror" -- it's "The People's Court" in Arabic.

I don't much care how they spell their names....in any language!
