D.C. Terror Team?
Newsmax ^ | Oct. 11, 2002 | John LeBoutillier

Who is doing these random 'snipings' in and around our nation's capital?

The media is of course focusing on a 'Son of Sam' type solo, deranged nutball. And maybe they are right. FBI profilers have become frequent TV Talking Heads opining on who this shooter is.

Yet lost in the clutter is the report that "two men" were seen driving away from the latest gas station murder in Manassas, Va. Two men changes this crime – radically.

Two men means a conspiracy – and it also means planning, talking, debating and some sort of direction and chain of command.

Now, let us consider something: Is it mere coincidence that, just as D.C. is approving a massive war on Iraq, D.C. and its surrounding bedroom communities are terrorized by murderous snipings?

If these murders were happening in Boise or Seattle or Chicago, we could easily ascribe them to some domestic nutcase. But this is a systematic campaign to go to the heart of our nation's capital – and almost exactly one year after the anthrax mailings also sent D.C. into a lockdown.

If you look at a map of the Washington, D.C., area, these murders are taking place both in the city itself and also in a systematic pattern around the beltway. The killings are almost completing a circle around D.C. – where most people live.

Just as the FBI immediately 'steered' its anthrax investigation to a 'domestic mailer,' so, too, has law enforcement focused on a deranged psychopath like David Berkowitz. We hear virtually nothing from the federal officials about a Mideast connection here.

A year later and the feds haven't caught the anthrax mailer.

Three years after the arrival of West Nile virus in New York – right across the East River from the U.N., where sanctions were approved that crippled Saddam's income – we still have no clue how it got here. Yet officials are wary about accusing Saddam and his battery of evil scientists.

This author was first out of the gate claiming that it was "no coincidence' that West Nile virus was here. I continue to believe Saddam was and is trying to hurt us in any way he can – without leaving a return address.

The ongoing D.C. killings may very well be yet another terror tactic – from Baghdad – aimed at inflicting pain on a people who are voting for regime change in Baghdad.

My only qualification would be don't rule out the media-fed idea of a white guy. :p Consider it ONE of a gazillion scenarios, among which lie domestic and foreign terrorism. Cuz we don't have much in the way of hard evidence (been debating this on other threads). Very odd that the Pentagon is getting involved, but not beyond belief if it's NOT foreign terrorism. Point is, we're all still waiting for a big break. It'll come.

P.S. Catch-22, of course. Would government let people be panicked if they thought they could control the situation? Dunno.

Just reported on Fox...Maryland Governor signs bill tomorrow to ban all forms of target practice and hunting for now. I think it must have something to do with the DOD plane that does surveillance and can pick up muzzle flashes.

Well done.

Very odd description on the rifle. Any hints as to the offset, misaligned scope? "Black steel and brown wood" - M-14? Or do I wait for the book?

The scope is offset and aimed down because the barrel must be aimed very high for the long looping shot. A scope on center will just be looking at the suppressor way out there.

It's an old SKS, the BATF villain wants ALL semi autos banned, not just another restriction on high cap mags.

The 7.62X39 is also picked for its rainbow trajectory to "drop in" on the stadium at 1200 yards. Very low power at that range, subsonic and silent, but enough to cause a panic stampede.

serve as a decoy or distraction for the shooter who is in a different vehicle for every attempted shot.    Touché!

btw: been there, done that:   working in tandem

>He is waiting for this type of vehicle to arrive at the location
... not randomly waiting for some "innocent" van... it's the killer's cohort.

Everyone knows from John Danforth's recreation of the Branch Davidian conflagration and shootout, that infrared sensors cannot pick up the intense heat of muzzle flashes. They can only pick up the glint of sunlight off broken glass. </sarcasm>

This is a weapon that can shoot two to three rounds a second right?

Actually we don't know that. It could be a bolt action where the max rate might be one every 3 or 4 seconds, and only 5 or so rounds available without reloading. Or we could be talking about a single shot weapon, either long gun or handgun. We just don't know yet. The motivation for not having the semi-auto? Bolt actioins are usually more accurate, and certainly aren't as "scarry looking", should someone see it somewhere away from the shooting scenes. The single shots can be more accurate still, but generally not much, however they may have other advantages, such as very quick takedown, or if a handgun, smaller size and ease of use from inside a vehicle smaller than the van type vehicle shown in the graphic released yesterday.

I posted the following on another thread. I know I'm speaking to people who largely already agree with me, but I suddenly feel a sense of urgency, as I have suddenly been convinced that this is terrorism (partly based on the revelation of the weapon involved). The ramifications of this being terrorism are grave.

I don't want to sound like an old school teacher preaching to the class, but here's what I felt like I need to say:

I was dubious of the speculation that these killings were by ME terrorists, but I am becoming convinced now that they ARE. This nation was supposed to be protected (and its Constitution protected), by We, the People, by militias (all able-bodied men in America). I urge everyone who can to get a concealed weapons permit, to take training, and to always carry. If you have a rifle and land or a nearby range, practice, and teach your boys, if you have any.

I'm afraid this turmoil will all eventually lead to chaos, and either a civil war or an increasingly brutal police state. Speaking for me, I will live free or die. I urge these actions here at FR because I believe most of you here are conservatives or liberterians that love your country, love freedom, and love the law of the land (the US Constitution) and I want to see the right side prepared, and the right side come out on top. Also, maybe we can avert that chaos that seems to loom in the future if we will be vigilant now. To Hell with Iraq, or even China or North Korea at this point - the battle is here.
