Profilers see sniper taking increasing risks

The sniper responsible for 10 shootings, eight of them fatal, in the Washington area in the past two weeks seems to be becoming more of a risk taker as law enforcement steps up its pursuit, a professor of criminal justice says.

Whoever the shooter is, they are obviously getting bold. The need for active, public hunters IS needed to make th(ese)is shooter screw up, just once to let the LEO's and other's get a little warmer on their hunt.

Well, I suppose it would just be too much like "profiling" to consider that
Muslims head for services at their Mosque of Fridays (at least on Friday afternoon here
in Los Angeles area) and are (as I'm told) usually kinda' inactive on Saturday's as well.

And if he/they like American pro football...that will mean Sundays are out.

Yes, I know one of the killings was after dark on Friday.

But even Islamic terrorists don't always keep on schedule.

Counter sniper isn't going to work when the guys hunting ground is 70 miles long and 10 wide, with millions of civilians (i.e. targets) in the way. The shooting tonight was obviously well planned, the cops had the highways closed in a short time, and he still got out.

I'm guessing he's not in a white van, he's got his egress carefully planned, and he's out of the area in minutes, not on highways.

My prediction for the next shooting is before noon, and south of the cluster of shootings, but not as far south as the farthest ones.

I'm ever more strongly suspecting Islamic terrorists. You know why? An American type would be sensible enough to stay in Maryland, where the people are disarmed. Moving the scene of the crime to Virginia, where the whole population carries (the NRA national headquarters is right in the middle of the recent shootings on Rte. 66), this guy is going to turn a whole state into Flight 93. He's doomed.

Yeah serial killers tend to get sloppier the longer they go without getting caught. Since he kills his victims from a distance its not sexual or about power. The 2 other types of serial killers Ive heard of do it because( A. they want to prove they are smarter than the police B. They think a supernatural or divine entity has inspired them this guy is probably B since given there was supposedly a note saying "I am God")

local news is citing CBS and AP saying a witness or witnesses saw the shooter exit vehicle and take the shot

In WWII, with thousands of troops in the field and their own corps of snipers, the Red Army often used artillery to go after German snipers.

That's a frightening thought. They have hundreds of thousands of men carrying weapons of war around and they use arty to go after one man with a rifle.

If I lived in the area, I'd consider moving. If I couldn't move, I'd wear body armor and a helmet.

If the Muslim sabbath is the same as the Jewish sabbbath, it's from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown. I'm not sure, but I think some Muslims keep Mecca time.

Sunday would be quiet because there is too little traffic to cover the escape.

Things might be slowing down simply because of the number of people on the lookout. I personally believe there are a number of people involved other than the shooter. This means someone to plan, someone to scout the locatation and give the go-ahead, someone to decoy. Not to mention, each and every person involved would have an airtight alibi for at least one of the shootings.

This guy's first priority is to plan an escape scenario - then take a shot at anyone entering his scope.

My take is that this guy or lady is on a determined crusade. He or she could be:

1. A Serb seeking revenge for our destruction of Serbia.

2. Al Queda operative.

3. X-military sniper seeking immortality (media)- wouldn't that be something - a monster of our own making.

4. Lonnie Hurihuchi finally freaked out. Shot a mother while she was holding her baby. Only a boarder-line nut would do that.

I suspect it's # 2, or possible #3.

The sniper could very well be a lady accompanied by a baby so she doesn't raise any suspicions at the roadblocks.

The guy in Baltimore is an ex-Marine. He was a sniper instructor in the Marines.
