CNN Headline News is reporting that a woman has been shot near a Home Depot in Falls Church, VA, and that authorities are investigating whether this is another sniper attack.
Breaking now....
Exactly - end over end
I believe it was reported that they did, at one point, have a direction of travel. My impression was that police were declining to comment on the pursuit or direction of travel at the time of the press conference, and that their means of declining was to say that they couldn't comment/didn't know/whatever they said.
There is a significant delay in the time events occur and when it is reported, even in this age of instant info. It's possible that witnesses knew direction of travel BUT - 30 minutes had passed after the shooting before the roads were thoroughly locked down. The section of the county where the shooting occurred is a complex intersection of no fewer than seven roads, several of which are major roads. The police could have lost the vehicle quite easily even if they arrived in time to pursue the vehicle. There are also a large number of smaller roads, residential roads and the like that the vehicle could have cut down. If the suspect wasn't caught up in traffic - and depending on his timing, he was either out of there before the road lockdown happened or is in a traffic hell much worse than usually plagues the area - he could have been long gone before police even thought to shut down the roads.
So no, I don't think it's police ineptitude that has us hearing analysis instead of seeing a live standoff on one of the many clogged roads of this area. I think it's that our roads are screwed up beyond belief, and police aren't always instantly blinked right onto a crime scene and so the killer was likely gone prior to police arrival. My guess would be that witnesses saw and reported the direction of travel but that it was too little, too late. I could be wrong, but that's my guess based on my knowledge of the area.
Which, at the rate this thread is moving, will be at 11:24 PM PDT.
I learned the details recently. Apparently, the AR-15/M-16 was originally designed this way to maximize damage. The Geneva Convention bans fragmenting ammo in warfare.
The "secret" is in the rifling. The more "twist" for a given distance through the barrel, the faster the spin upon exit through the muzzle (and better stabilization).
Taking the nation out of normal behavior will have an effect on the economy, which will have an effect on our national power.
Also, politicians tend to hold their jobs based on the economy and the amount of money in people's hip-pockets...
Exactly! I live in the midst of it and any of us can see that there is exactly nothing that any of them could do that is not being done. If you expect that new government outfit to make you safe you had better be prepared for a huge let down. In the meanwhile we have lost more freedoms than we will ever recover.
Take a clue from Israel. With all their capabilities and intelligence and skill from dealing with it for age-years can they keep anyone safe? They have always been socialists so they do not have the freedoms to lose which we have already given up.
I just thought it was eye raising commentary on our wonderful color coded system. :) ... anyway ... I wish we were a little more aggressive like Israel when it came to taking out terrorist cells.
I agree. He would have to be a very lucky 'lone nut' to escape this many times.
