It says on the UK news this morning that Australia is already calling this their "9/11". Australia has been a great ally in the war on terror, and been with America and Britain from the first.
Britain and America grieve with Australia, to be sure.
Regards, Ivan

Boy that'll change. :< The Hindu majority on the island should attempt independence.

Indonesia is just a pasted together bunch of islands. It needs to be broken up so the Hindus and Christians can govern themselves and the Muslim areas can make use of their resources without having them exploited by Jakarta. Hopefully East Timor is not the last. Hopefully we will see a good deal of old fashioned secession taking place in the near future.
I hope that this is the worst hit that Australians take in this war on terror and that they start seriously defending themselves. (I hope New Zealand decides they need an army and navy after all also).

Distraught? ... Distraught?
Distraught is when the Insinkerator eats your favorite grapefruit spoon, with you holding it...
Or when you are expecting the boss over for dinner and the kids throw whole toilet tissue rolls in the commode and repeatedly flush just to watch the water reach the other level of water in the bath tub that also has the last roll of terlit paper stuck in the drain, not realizing that the bread rolls for dinner will not hold back the rising tide of ... ANYTHING!
Don't ya think Pissed as Hell might be a bit more appropriate?
But Nooooooo!
Let's be trendy with political correctness.
I'm soaking my knuckles in brine for those so inclined...

The answer, of course, is more gun control.

I was in that nightclub two years ago.
These scum must be hunted down and sent to their maker.

This
hits home here in the states as well. We found out this evening that we lost a good, good man there as well.

I hate to say it ... I REALLY hate to say it ... but something like this was necessary to truly wake up the Australian-in-the-Street as to just how serious a threat this is and how much a part of it they themselves are going to be. They were just like us pre-9/11: "What could possibly happen to us? We're surrounded by oceans!" Now their eyes have been awakened, just as ours were.
Inevitably, similar attacks will occur in Canada, and the UK, and inside Australia itself. And more and more will be awakened. Only then will we really be able to get down to business and annihilate these psychopathic murderers off the face of the planet.
All that said, I too pray for all the victims, and for all the people of Australia who are certainly feeling the same shock and anger and a whole other stew of emotions just as we felt in the days after 9/11. Let us also pray that their eventual reaction is the same as ours: A massive surge of patriotism, and an unceasing desire to destroy these subhuman scum in order to save our liberty.
I tried to go somewhere to post a note of condolence like all the US embassy web sites had set up after 9/11, but all the Australian embassy sites I found were pretty much business as usual except for special pages telling their citizens how to get the hell out of Indonesia.

Dear Cousins in Australia:
Very sad news. You have my deepest sympathies, and you are in my prayers.
Dear...NOT! Terrorists:
You are idiots! Complete and utter idiots, all of you! What sort of fools are you that you would keep doing everything in your power to provoke the wrath of nations such as Australia, America, Great Britain, Russia, Israel, India, etc.?
Did you really expect the Australians to tuck their tails and run from the war? The only thing you managed to achieve by committing this evil and cowardly deed was to pi$$ off and strengthen the resolve of yet another powerful nation.
Nice going Islamoidiots!

We are really gonna have to whack those bastard islamakazis, cousin...

Dear Australia, We Americans grieve for your losses.
Time to roll up your sleeves and kick some muslim ass.

About 30,000 people packed central Melbourne for an anti-war rally yesterday and observed a two-minute silence for the Bali victims. I have been following this event fairly closely and as yet have not seen a single note or article on any muslim group or state holding an anti-terrorism rally. I have not seen the muslim community express any regret for the loss of life in Bali, only finger pointing to some other governemnt or agency. I have yet to see through all of the events a single muslim individual or group stand up and say "This has got to stop, we can't keep killing people."
I have seen them dancing in the streets celebrating the murder of hundreds of innocent people that had done nothing more in their lives than trying to be good people in their communities and countries.
Yet today, and for the past few weeks I have seen people that I know standing on the corner waving signs protesting our "Rush to War", and proclaiming what an idiot the President of the United States is. Tears come to my eyes when I think of the horror that may soon be visited upon them by those who say theirs is a religion of peace. Then again, I doubt that terrorists would take the time to murder people who support their acts of terror.
I note that there are no demonstrations in Israel by Israelis against the war being fought in their streets against terrorism. I guess it is easy to protest here at home, and there in Australia, when you know the very government you are protesting against is doing everything it can to protect your right to do just that.
God bless and protect us in the days to come.

Many Americans do not realize that the Aussies served side by side with us in Vietnam (the Kiwis too, for that matter.) I have no doubt that they will see this through no matter what nonsense comes out of their peacenik crowd.

Britain and America grieve with Australia, to be sure. That's a fact. And the three countries on the face of this earth with the best of intentions and the grit of character to do something about these animals will not stand by and wait for the diplomacy of cowards to stop this insanity.

My deepest sympathies for all the Australian killed, and to every other affected people, Indonesian, British, Canadian, German et al.
Thankfully, the one confirmed New Zealand death subsequently turned up alive in Darwin. It's amazing there weren't more Kiwi casualties, but it's unsuprising we'd frequent different pubs to Australians. But many Kiwis still remain unaccounted for.
We disagree with Australia over almost everything - over the past few years particularly about security and defense issues, about which we have funadamental philosophical and geo-political differences.
But when push comes to shove, the ANZAC spirit is not about our dead forefathers on Turkish shores, it's about our shared history, values, friendship and future. Australia has no closer sibling than New Zealand.
All my love to the Lucky Country,
Keep the Aspidistra Flying,
New Zealand.
