We know the Law Enforcement community uses profiling to get some clue as to the identities and motives of serial killers.

I propose we make up our own profile, based on what we know , and I invite all Freepers , who think they have a useful idea to contribute, to add their thoughts to this post.

I'd like to kick things off with a discussion of the TIMELINE involved in these shootings. What does it suggest to you ?

Agreed. I work in DC and there are always construction/repair/maintenance types around and they ALL seem to come in from out there - way out in Virginia from places like PW, Spotsylvania or even Frederick counties. They can not afford to live closer.

Normal people don't shoot other people's kids but this guy is not normal. He shot the kid to get back at the cop for saying the schools were safe as if to say "THAT'S WHAT YOU THINK!" He does everything we don't do or wouldn't even think of doing. He goes against everything we believe so shooting the kid was his idea of a slap at Chief Moose.

James D. Martin
James D. Martin, a program analyst at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, was standing in the parking lot of a Wheaton, Maryland, grocery store on October 2, when he was killed. He was there to buy groceries for his church.
The 55-year-old was an amateur genealogist and a Civil War buff. He is survived by his wife and the 11-year-old son he doted over.

James Buchanan
James "Sonny" Buchanan was known as a man with a big heart who was always ready to help others.
The 39-year-old son of a retired Montgomery County police officer was an active volunteer at the local Boys and Girls Club. He was an amateur poet and taught children how to garden.
"Sonny was the dad to literally 400 kids. He came to the club two or three times a week, helped with homework, etcetera," said Gregory Wims, a friend and fellow volunteer at the club.
Buchanan used run a landscaping company but had gotten out of the business. He was mowing the lawn of a former customer's car dealership near Rockville, Maryland, early on October 3, when he was shot in the chest and killed.

Prem Kumar Walekar
About a half-hour later, Prem Kumar Walekar, 54, was shot and killed while filling his car with gas. It was his 25th wedding anniversary.
"I just want everybody to know that my dad was, he was the greatest person I ever met, you know, I ever knew," said Walekar's son Andrew. "I'm glad he was my father."
Ordinarily, the part-time taxi driver would not have been at the gas station at that time of day, but he was trying to finish his runs early so he could enjoy the warm, afternoon weather.
Walekar was born in India and had hoped to retire there.

Sarah Ramos

Sarah Ramos also died that morning. Ramos, 34, was sitting on a bench reading outside a shopping center when she was shot in the head and killed.
She was an immigrant from El Salvador, who was a member of several church groups and babysat for a number of children and worked as a housekeeper.
"The thing that impressed me about Sara, when she walked into the room, not just a person walked in the room but something walked in the room with her," said Larry Gaffigan, her employer. "Something that just warmed the house and your soul."
Ramos was married and had a 7-year-old son.

Lori Ann Lewis-Rivera

Lori Ann Lewis-Rivera was getting ready to vacuum out her van at a Kensington, Maryland, gas station when she, too, was killed that same day.
She grew up in a small town in Idaho and recently moved east with her husband and pre-school-aged daughter. She was 25 years old.
"I mean, she comes and goes, and all of a sudden she gets caught up in this, it's just devastating," said a neighbor, Rosa Malon. "There's no words for it."

Pascal Charlot

Pascal Charlot, 72, who was killed late on October 3 on a Washington street, was the only one of the sniper's victims killed in the nation's capital.
Charlot emigrated to the United States from Haiti and was a retired carpenter. He is survived by his wife.

Woman, boy

October 4, a 43-year-old woman was shot and critically injured in a Fredericksburg, Virginia, parking lot. She was later released from the hospital and was not identified.
The sniper's eighth victim was a 13-year-old boy who was shot in the abdomen after his aunt dropped him off to start the day at a middle school in Maryland's Prince George's County on October 7.
His aunt, a nurse, rushed him to a local hospital. He was airlifted to a Washington hospital where doctors removed his spleen and parts of his stomach and pancreas. He was in critical but stable condition and was on a ventilator.

Dean Harold Meyers
On October 9, Dean Harold Meyers, 53, was fatally shot as he pumped gas night at a station in Manassas, Virginia. Meyers was a resident of Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Kenneth Bridges
The sniper struck again October 11, shooting and killing Kenneth Bridges, 53, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The co-founder of a marketing distribution company, he was in the area on a business trip and had stopped to fill his car with gas.
Friend Gary Shepherd said the family was "shocked and saddened by this senseless event."
"Ken was a loving husband, father of six children and an outstanding citizen of the Philadelphia community," Shepherd said. "While no family should have to endure this type of tragedy, the Bridges family hopes that this killer is brought to justice as quickly as possible."

He might well be Muslim...the *arabic* looking person that was shot at might not have been wearing Islamic clothes, so he felt angry and shot at him.

Many Muslim/Arabs do not like black Americans and are racist against them....so that might explain why the 13 year old was shot. The shooter does not see them as being human, as well as all the other people s/he's shot at.

I see a connection to oil, gasoline, and/or gas-powered vehicles with just about all of the victims. Martin is shot while crossing a parking lot; Buchanan is killed operating a lawn mower; Walekar is pumping gas, Ramos is killed while sitting on a park bench -- but could that have been mistaken for a bus stop? Charlot is a puzzle but was shot in the street, presumably in proximity to vehicles; the caucasian woman and black youth are, respectively, loading a vehicle and unloading from one. Meyers is another gas pump victim. Somebody doen't much like our mobile and mechanized society.

Has there ever been a conflict between the time of these shootings and official prayer times for muslims in DC? I only see one: 10/9/02. In all other cases, the killer had time to get from the shooting site to a mosque where he could pray (or vice versa) or get to a safe house where he could pray. Well . . . maybe. It's a possibility.

You are thinking like a good American.

However, with Islam as an enemy of America, THEY use children to kill anyone
and they gladly have had the children die for their goals.

I didn't say *normal* people don't do that.

For instance, I live in a very high crime area of a city, yet I see kids go unharmed around here all the time, young kids even.

I think it's because most of the horrible criminals here have children they've fathered and do tend to leave the kids alone because of that fact.

The criminals in my neighborhood are not *normal* people either. I was merely stating an observation, that even most criminals leave kids alone IF they have kids.

I think we'd do well to observe the distinctions John Douglas makes between the Spree Killer and Serial Killer archetypes. While our, "sniper," (be it one or more persons)has some components of both, as do many killers, the detachment and total lack of interaction or relationship with the victim pretty much embeds the sniper in the spree-killer camp.

In many ways, the sniper is behaving like a serial arsonist; however, I believe the media is saving the trouble of his/her/their arrival at the crime scene as an onlooker ex post facto, facilitating his/her/their getaway.

The al-qaeda terrorist angle is an interesting one; however, if they were devout moslems, I doubt we'd see Friday killings...these folks call time out in war for ramadan, and I would think much of their inspiration and spiritual drive behind their acts would need refreshing with the weekly propaganda spewed in a mosque.

I think we have a/some Klebold-Harris types acting on a slightly higher level of sophistication...that is they may have a part-time job with flexibility in their schedule, or possibly a college/vocational school schedule. They reside with another person or persons who may have no idea what they are doing, or may be in denial ala the parents of Klebold-Harris. If the, "sniper," turns out to be more than one person, I would imagine their profiles generally fit the Lesko-Travaglia spree model, although they would be from a somewhat higher social and educational background.

DC to Fred. VA no more than 90 min., w/ no rush hour crap: N to S in P.M., VICE VERSA, A.M..perhaps double the 90 min., dependin on what part of rush hour you're in.

Suppose the guy works 11PM-7AM and does a normal weekend because of family. If this is the case, he can shoot on the way to and from work. I don't have the ability but someone familiar with the area and traffic etc might be able to work out a route or even an area where he might work.
