Or a turkey hunter.

The guy looks just like me when I'm bear hunting. Furthermore, I've made some of the shots they're claiming with open, iron sights and a roundball loaded musket.

I really hope they catch this guy soon and I truly hope he isn't an American, regardless of how nuts he may be.

The religious among you should pray to your God that this ******* is caught tonight.

More likely two twenty something misfits who have some hunting experience. They are sniper wannabees. They have seen the movie "Sniper" (Great movie)too many times. If they were military they would be using a deer rifle, they would be firing from a longer range, and they probably wouldnt be fleeing the area by van. They would merely lie in place or crawl away (in plain sight). Each shooting had a wooded park area nearby.

BTW, the cop was dealing with an accident on the expressway and he was 50 yards from the shooting victim, not the shooter.

"This guy must be ex-military. Look at his skill in slipping away, only trained snipers can do that. "

You are out of your mind. I am not military and I can hit a target at 200 Yards, get in my "white van" and drive away in the confusion with no problem.

Hope everyone knows that some of the nation's law enforcement elite train down at the U.S. Marines base at Quantico, VA, just a short trip up/down I-95 from both Fredericksburg and today's crime scene.

The perp(s) are obviously smart enough to know how to elude authorities in an area where several members of the law enforcement community live, work and play.

....people at seven different name brand gas stations. Then consider this. He stated that, "I am God." Gotta tell ya, if you think like an eco freak, that could mean that he is acting as God's hand, desiminating justice as if by His will.

That's an interesting take on the killer. My sense is that he is (with apologies to our very own freeper swarthyguy) a swarthy guy, disgruntled with being overlooked or passed over....perhaps an ex-cop or special forces guy, perhaps one of allah's darling little terrorist martyrs...but those Allah fellows have so far martyred themselves whilst killing others. I think the Koran gives tham that directioon. So if he's a muslim terrorist, he's a renegade; if he's an ex-cop or serviceman, he's a renegade. And if he's an ecofreak, well, he's prety mainstream for that bunch.....You really may be onto something!

I wonder how long it is until the police have a good enough idea of his MO that they can figure out a couple of possible target areas and forgetting "Posse Commitatus", post a few real special ops snipers in wait for him. Like to see the look on his face when he looks in his scope to find his target of the day and sees a puff of smoke in the distance. BANG!!

Earlier on FNC, Cavuto was talking with David Hackworth. Hackworth said he felt it was domestic, not imported.

He also said it takes a sniper to get a sniper.

I once went on a "hash" run in Dallas (about 1990 IIRC, younger, lighter, chick involved) that went about a half mile thru a city storm sewer. People were looking at all these insane runners wondering where they all came from.

What's the big deal about appearing out of nowhere, or just disappearing, with something that handy nearby to either emerge from or slip away in?

IMHO, your suggestion would be counterproductive. We want these perp(s) taken alive.

Also, they could very well be recently ex- or current LEO/military. They probably have sophisticated technical gear locked in on all police communications.

Well, my thoughts are nothing but hot air at this point. It will be interesting to see what the motivation was. Obviously the largest facilitating factor was mental illness.

I think Hackworth is probably right. Especially since any so-called "foreign looking", "suspicious" characters seen down in THOSE particular areas of Virginia would have attracted more attention from the local folks than someone who looks more "like from 'round here". ;-)

Indeed, It's part of the "bogeyman" tradition that these guys get built up into terrifying supermen; but these seem to only exist in movies, it's amazing how pathetic they often turn out to be in reality.

Cunnane is a good example, but Berkowitz is one too....the Summer of the Son of Sam, I don't think anyone was expecting the guy to turn out to be a pathetic little lump of a man. Heck, plenty of people still aren't "satisfied" that he was scary enough and lived up to the hype and you still have "massive Satanic conspiracy" types running around.

I have a weird theory. What if the sniper is in "training" for a bigger attack...as in, shooting at the President? Look at how he is operating..during the day, in crowded areas, even with police around. Just my two cents, but a thought anyway.

I'm thinking an ex-cop or a cop wannabee. He knows the local area and local PDs, and was able to flee today and avoid a huge dragnet. When they finally catch him/them, I think they'll discover a scanner with all of the local/state frequencies programmed in.
