This whole thing has a certain Ted Kasc-- Kaczn-- Unabomber quality to it. Ten bucks says that if and when the shooter is found, he (or she) turns out to be some demented animal rights activist who is out hunting humans "to make you understand how wild animals feel."

Could be Al Gore trying to pickup a few more votes from PETA.

One profiler was saying this morning that, contrary to many other theorists who were speculating about a Vietnam era guy, he believes the shooter is young, 18-22...someone who is a gun fanatic, obsessed with video gaming. I've been wondering whether whoever it is has been playing games like Hitman or any of a number of other virtual-shooter games that include sniper scenarios. Sounds like thay may be hot on the trail of the latest shooting, actually pursuing a white Astro van...developing.

I believe this is part of a Democratic plot to encrease their "permanent democrat votor pool". new members of the pool can be found daily in the obituary section of your local newspaper.

It might be muslims doing what they like to do, i.e., create terror.
The indiscriminate nature of the killings would support this theory.

The one thing with "obsessed video gaming" is that one's perception of the real-world gets skewed and on top of that real-life in a video cage is not modelled too well ... the absent minded leaving of clues, identification of MO by ex-wives, ex-girlfiends, or even friends or relatives aren't taken into consideration nor are key observations by a 'spooked' and fully-aware public ...

I see a new game on the video game market getting a lot of air advertising..called
"Hit Man II" ..interesting timing
Good one on Vietnam vets...the liberals have been scape goating us for the last 40 yrs or so...now that we are in our 50's and 60's (arthritic & presbyopic)....youd think they'd give up...but NOOO......
In spite of all crime stats to the contrary involving age and crime...they still love castigating Vietnam vets...still spiting on us after all these years...

It's not Pali style. Historically, they like to open up on a crowd with a Kalashnikov at short range. They have a dismal record when it comes to long-range sniping.
Maybe they hired a Kosovar.

The local paper had two articles this morning -- articles, not editorials -- theorizing that it was right-wing Vietnam vet white male gun nut with a history of mental illness who bought his weapon through the gun show loophole, and this wouldn't have happened if the Republicans hadn't blocked the .50 Browning ban.
Even my wife said, "How in God's name would a ban on .50 BMG's stop a screwball with a varmint rifle?"

The shootings keep happening at gas stations. It could be a kook protesting the war on Iraq.

It's not Pali style. Historically, they like to open up on a crowd with a Kalishnikov at short range...The ten Israeli soldiers killed in an attack by a lone sniper near Ofra last Spring might disagree with you on that, though Israeli security and military themselves were debating whether a young talented rifleman might have been sent abroad for advanced training in long-range shooting at multiple targets, or if a Kosovar or IRA professional had been hired as a mercenary to do the work for them.
In both the D.C. area shootings and the one in Israel, the sniper did exactly what they do best: spread question, doubt, speculation and nervousness among their adversaries, who can then wonder just how many shooters there are, and when- and who- they will select as the next target.
But it does not at all appear likely that the shooter in Israel could possibly be the same one that took out the Israeli troops at Ofra. That shooter at least had the courage to take on armed military targets; the one in D.C. feels safer shooting unarmed civilians, women and kids. Just another terrorist.

I like your theory, but doubt many PETA types are expert shots. Whoever it is, and whatever his motive, Democrats will be sure to jump on any opportunity to pass some new law, or lament current ones.
The armchair shrink in me says this guy is young, vain, and a complete sociopath. 30-35 years old, well educated (at least a 4 year degree), and has complete contempt for the average human being. He probably has even greater contempt for institutions developed by and for the common man: police forces, public schools, etc. The tarot card was left because his initial theory was true: you really CAN get away with murder as long as it's random enough. He will eventually get caught because he wants to show what kind of evil genius he is.

Democrats will be sure to jump on any opportunity to pass some new law... They're already doing it. I'm seeing commentator after commentator on the left talking about the need to "close the gun show loophole" and "ban sniper rifles." This is all predicated on the assumption that the public has a short attention span and an even shorter memory. Weren't these same people telling us a few years ago that high-capacity magazines and semi-auto rifles had no sporting purpose because the true sportsman only needs one shot?
Now I see the "one shot, one kill" mantra being repeated in editorial after editorial, as proof that the "sniper culture" is filled with deranged and bloodthirsty men. Okay, so if we've already high-capacity magazines and "semi-auto assault rifles," and we ban "single-shot long range sniper rifles" next, what's left?

This is my first speculation on these threads -- maybe because by the time I got to the other threads, they had all accumulated 200+ responses.
Islamic terrorist? Unlikely, only because they have such a dismal record of screwups with ordinary things. He would have blundered, or been caught, or been in a standoff with police by now. If there's an Islamic terrorist with this much self-control, that would be a really scary thing. Plus, unclaimed terrorist acts are of limited utility.
Teen goth? Unlikely, for some of the same reasons as above. Generally has a suicide fantasy.
White supremacist? Pointless. These guys don't attack, they defend.
Genius fantasy type? Most probable, like the Unabomber.
