I work in a newsroom in Fredericksburg, and they heard on the police scanner that a person has been shot at a gas station at "Four Mile Fork" which is a neighborhood just south of the City of Fredericksburg.
No details yet, but I wanted to let y'all know -- and keep up the tradition of FReepers getting news first.
Pray for the victim, and pray that this is a random shooting, and that this monster's terror has not widened yet again.

We had a very dramatic, fiery explosion at a gas station here in Tampa Bay over ten years ago. That was from a cigarette tossed from a passing car. The law firm I used to work for was involved in one of the insurance claims. We had the depositions. A lady went to dial the phone at the gas station and her finger turned to ash and fell off. Two or three people died in the blaze.
WHOEVER THIS IS, it's about time SOMEONE caught them. How can this bad guy(s) go completely undetected for so long? He isn't psychotic either. If he was, he would have realized at some point, all he had done and offed himself.
This person(s) is PURE EVIL and will not stop unless he is stopped.

I want to hear your theory on this situation, again. Amazing predictions, anyway. Didn't you say they should block the roads after an incident?

"How easy is it"It's a snap. The only ones this wouldn't work for is for the ignorant and lazy criminals. The real reason they want this, is to create the gun records. They'll want 2 year checks to make sure the "fingerprints" are recent(even shooting the gun will change them). Then as soon as they get the votes needed to ban them, they'll use the lists to collect them.

"How easy is it to change the barrel on weapons like this thereby rendering ballistics records moot?"Rest assured, it wouldn't take long. The barrel could be changed pretty quickly or the existing barrel could be polished a little which would change the profile, or the easiest way would be to just change the bullet weight that is being shot as it would have a different profile.
Most anti-gunners jump on the "bandwagon" without a clue about reality and that's their basic problem to start with.

Yep, what is going to happen is some hero will be too fast on the trigger and slow in the thought process and take someone out who is totally innocent. Some guy with an expired license in his pocket who is suddenly being chased by the cops. He doesn't want to get caught as he loses his job, so he tries to evade them. What happens next? Spike strips across the highway, the van comes to a grinding halt on 4 flat tires and when the tries to reach for his registeration, somebody does him in. His widow and 3 crumb snatchers get an apology from the police chief and life goes on for the sniper.

If he keeps shooting, they will catch him. Bet the rent.... I agree. No matter how carefully this Sicko plans his attacks he can't control himself and there are millions of eyes looking for him. He will be caught soon...dead or alive.

QUESTION
What are the names of the Gas Station Branches in the Area...?
So far he has hit at a Mobil, Shell, Sunoco and now an Exxon. (the gas stations probably mean nothing but only offer a quick escape for him since they are located near major routes)
To: finnman69
Very easy. A few minutes with a Dremel tool and some emory paper, and you've changed the characteritics. With some rifles, you can buy and install a new barrel.
Another way is to steal a weapon. If the system actually matches a round to a weapon, it only leads to the legal owner, not the shooter.
The system doesn't handle the easiest method - use a bolt-action rifle and drop a casing from another weapon picked up at a local range.
Bottom line: gun-signature records will only work with stupid crminials.

Been watching "Enemy of the State" again. While the movie addresses some important questions, it's just bad science fiction as far as satellite surviellance technology goes. Oh, but I just love the part where the lingere store's surveillance camera is able to rotate the image to get a three dimensional view of Will Smith's shopping bag.

"Dear Mister Policeman" I saw that too, and thought it would be a very odd thing for an American to say.

Just curious and may be a dumb question. Have any witnesses been reported as having heard the gunshots?
To: finnman69
The anti-gun nuts are going to claim that mandatory ballistics records could have prevented these shootings. There are now about 300,000,000 guns in the USA. How could all these guns be balisticly tested? The resources and systems will never exist and no-one will cooperate anyway. It's smoke and mirrors.

Oh, but I just love the part where the lingere store's surveillance camera is able to rotate the image to get a three dimensional view of Will Smith's shopping bag. Yes, that one had me in stitches too. Apparently the angle on that lens was so wide it could somehow capture the other side of the object. Scary thing is, I bet lots of people who saw that scene believed it was possible.
To: SarahW
Don't start posting speculative bullshit that involves real people.
That's horribly irresponsible.
